Siemens Digital Industries Software announced an agreement to acquire Excellicon. This acquisition will add Excellicon’s software for developing, verifying, and managing timing constraints to Siemens’ EDA portfolio for IC design. The integration aims to support implementation and verification flows, helping System-on-a-Chip (SoC) designers improve power, performance, and area (PPA), speed up design closure, enhance constraint accuracy, increase productivity, and address gaps in existing workflows.

The SoC design landscape is changing due to increasing design complexity. Timing constraints management is needed throughout the design process to meet power, performance, area, and time-to-market requirements.

The addition of Excellicon’s product portfolio covers timing constraints authoring, compiling, verification, formal validation, and management using a multi-mode approach that links early design concepts with physical implementation. It provides insights into partitioning schemes for floorplans and timing. Integrating Excellicon’s timing constraint verification and management technology into Siemens will enhance both implementation and verification processes.

Founded in 2009 in Laguna Hills, USA, Excellicon develops tools for timing constraints used in digital design and verification workflow. Terms of the acquisition, which is expected to close in a few weeks, were not disclosed.
