Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel will decide his future plans in January after failing to make an appearance in the Premier League under manager Antonio Conte.

“We will wait and see what happens in January,” Mikel said.

“For the first time in my career, this is happening to me and I have to stand up and deal with it. It is what it is but I’m training hard every day and always wish the team the best and I am happy we are doing well.

“Managers come and go. Players come and go.”

The 29-year-old midfielder has been at Stamford Bridge since 2006, and featured in 23 Premier League games last campaign.

His inactivity has angered Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr, who says the lack of playing time is due to his participation in Brazil this summer.

“He is being punished for deciding to go to the Olympics for Nigeria,” Rohr told ESPN. “He is training and doing well for us. I cannot punish him for deciding to make a sacrifice for Nigeria.

“I’ve been at Chelsea a long time and these things happen in football. So we will have to make that decision when January comes.”
