All successful candidates in the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force will undergo compulsory polygraph test (lie detector test), official said on Tuesday.

This was announced in a statement signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police ( DCP) Don Anwunah, Force Public Relations Officer.

This will be in addition to the general background check, biometrics, medical, physical examination, aptitude, oral and psychological tests, which are aside the thorough verification of all documents submitted by prospective candidates.

Awunah explained that the test would ensure that persons of questionable character do not get recruited into the police force.

According to the statement, the measures were occasioned by a directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. Ibrahim K. Idris.

“The lie detector test is aimed at ensuring that candidates are not of questionable character and their behaviours conform with standard rules of behaviour expected of an officer to be recruited into the Force.

“The Police Academy and other training colleges across the country will be equipped to carry out the necessary tests,”  the statement said further.

The Police Service Commission had recently shortlisted 110, 469 for the aptitude tests.

They were part of the 338,250 candidates who were initially screened.

The 110,469 comprised of 22, 454 for Cadet ASPs, 24, 456 for Cadet Inspectors and 63,559 for Police Constables
