*Aquarion Fans: /m/ equivalent of the Officio Assassinorum. They exist and they hit hard when they show up, but too few exist to have a lasting impact on anything outside the board. Due to the franchise's complex philosophy and symbolic shit they are the third snobbiest on the board after Gainax Fans and the Bones Fans that favor Concrete Revolution.

*Fantasy Mecha Fans: /m/ equivalent of the Ecclesiarchy. Many exist and they are necessary, but are not that unified at the core. They usually cross over with Showa Fans since Aura Battler Dunbine is their second main go to anime after The Vision of Escaflowne. Other praised anime from them include Ryu Knight, Panzer World Galient, Wataru, and Magic Knight Rayearth. While Demonbane is not traditional fantasy it can be included as such due to all the H.P. Lovecraft and other literary references.

/m/ and Anime News Network
+

It is no secret /m/ does not like ANN. Are the people running it obnoxious or evil or the like? No, most of /m/ sees them as regular humans. Opinion wise however, the two have less in common than Democrats and Republicans. ANN has done a wide variety of shit that has pissed /m/ off royally over the years. The main complaint is a horrible use of math in their reviews where story is the sole deciding factor ignoring everything else (IE music, animation, and art); averaging should matter for being a trustworthy source, but due to a lack of standard this is rarely the case. The staff also enforces a "spirit of the rules" meaning you can do nothing wrong and the moderators have free access to attack the shit out of you with the CEO admitting he will not bother to question anything they do. Good intentions, but holy fuck are they easily abused. Unlike other websites /m/ has a grudge against this one has influence over new anime fans that don't know any better, it gives an extra level of RAGE when their tastes don't align, especially when the objective news source goes subjective. Articles that pissed off /m/ from this place over the years include:

That and the subpar review with an facepalm worthy "I don't get it" complete with bad math. Old rumor has it they ignored Right Stuff's announcement of its North American release, but this was never confirmed.

*At least neither of the last two got it as bad as Gundam Evolve seriously what the fuck. You can see why this place is not seen as anything short of internet Commorragh to a lot of /m/en.

+

*Way too much positive press on Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans despite mass complaints on low TV ratings, music, art, characterization, animation to the point of meme material, and probably the slowest paced /m/ series rivaled only by the likes of Legends of Galactic Heroes and not in a good way.

+

*This poll which any /m/en worth his weight will debunk in minutes.

*Calling Aquarion Logos bad despite being one of the best mecha anime of the decade (some going as far as best anime period), the main reason it being "it was too complex/Japanese" or some shit.

+

*This opinion piece which to be fair was not rage inducing as much as it was kind of eye rolling.

The moral of the story? Question every review and recommendation. /m/ complains hard because most comment sections never point out glaring problems, but we can't blame it on the users that much under penalty of "spirit of the rules" or the mod telling you his dad was a cop or something.
