For those that are making their New Year’s resolutions, the Historic Folsom Farmers Market was a perfect place to start off on the right foot. More than 1,000 people gathered in the Historic Folsom public plaza on January 4 to fill up their push carts with fresh produce and goods. The nonprofit organization Be Smart Money U.S.A., founded and managed by Don and Marie Hall, provides entrepreneurs an outlet to thrive through their farmers markets within the Sacramento area. They also offer free education and hands on training to develop job skills for youth through their “rent a teen” program. Onsite cooking demos by chefs, Michael McCann of The Fat Rabbit and Rich Veal of The Sutter Street Steak House, allowed shoppers to experience the potential in their purchases. Small business owners like Susan Korec of Pasta Queen and Rebecca Wise of The Culture Kitchen were among the unique additions to this weekly market. The singing duo Chuck and Becca were one of the many musical entertainers that week. Special thanks to Stephanie Rodgers of the Historic Folsom Business Association for providing the venue for small businesses to have a storefront in the Folsom community.
