When picking a weapon to survive the zombie apocalypse, one must consider what would be the BEST weapon over what would be a good weapon or even the COOLEST weapon. Many factors come into play when choosing a weapon. Storage space in your shelter, the weight and storage space available if you are on the move, how loud said weapon would be etc. Listed below are weapons that pack a punch, and are a mixture of silent weapons and those that are loud.

1) Baseball Bat

+

+

Light, effective and packing a serious punch for those who can put some muscle behind their swing. Your average aluminum baseball bat is a great weapon. Not only are they effective for a silent kill, you can find them almost anywhere, possible even in your own home. However, they do have a fault. Aluminum bats, like wooden bats, although powerful, can bend or break easily after prolonged use and leave you defenceless. Cary a backup.

2) Machete

+

+

The modern 'version' of a sword. The machete is great for chopping down branches for fire wood and also other humans. Just as light as a baseball bat with an easy to sharpen razor edge, machetes are versatile killing weapons. You can also use it as a tool to start a fire with. For best results, use a steel machete, possible one brought from a military surplus store, as the steel will be of a better quality. Possible carry two in case one is lost due to being stuck in a zombies head. Also, practice with it to make effective headshots.

3) Spear

+

+

When it comes to zombie killing the most important thing is distance. A spear allows you to harness deadly killing power while maintaining distance. The problem with bats and machetes is in order to use them you need to be within biting distance - spears mitigate this risk. However, unless you have trained extensively over a period of years, spears will not do you much good as they take skill to use.

4) Shotgun

+

+

For most people this is the go to weapon for zombie killing. Quick, dirty and cheap the shotgun offers a powerful option. The best part is shotgun ammo is relatively easy to find, almost any sporting store will carry it. However, like most unsilenced firearms, they are loud. You may use your shotgun to clear a few zombies surrounding you, only to find you have rang a dinner bell for double the number you took out. Best used outside of confined spaces and as a secondary weapon to a silenced sidearm or a melee weapon such as a machete or katana. Also, carrying an excess of shells may weigh you down.

5) The Katana

+

+

The Katana is sleek, light and deadly. The key thing to remember about zombie killing is weight. The undead don't come in packs of one or two. If you're facing one it probably means there will be 50-60 friends nearby. The Katana offers a quick and effective solution for this. However, like the spear and to some extent the machete, training in order to kill a zombie will take practice.

6) Silenced Handgun

+

+

A silenced handgun, like a machete, can be your best friend, if used effectively. In tight corners where swinging a machete would prove night on impossible, a silenced handgun and a few well placed headshots may be the difference may well be the difference between life and death. Cannot be stressed enough-- for all firearms-- the weight of ammo may slow you down, so consider as a secondary weapon and one to be used as a last resort.
