Music has been her passion for as far back as she can remember. An avid fan of Begum Akhtar she learned Urdu so as to better understand the nuances of Urdu poetry particularly the ghazal. Minu Bakshi is a classically trained singer. She trained under the late Ustad Ghulam Hussain Khan of the Rampur gharana and later under. Her love of Urdu poetry and her acquired knowledge of the language allowed her to nurture her natural flair for writing Urdu poetry. This culminated in a full-fledged book of Urdu poetry entitled “Tishnagi” which translates in English as ” The Thirst”. She is a founder member and previously  vice chairperson of the well established NGO “Savera” which works for the upliftment of the economically weaker sections.
