The European Union Election Observation Mission has deployed 56 short term observers to reinforce its team in the ten provinces ahead of the 11th August elections.

This brings the number of EU election observers deployed in the country to over one hundred.

Speaking during the deployment in Lusaka yesterday, Chief Observer, Cecile Kyenge says the deployment of such a huge number of short term observers is ensure they have more eyes in the field especially that Election Day requires special attention.

Kyenge explains that the observers will follow Election Day in numerous polling stations so that they are able to get a reliable picture about how voting, counting and tabulation of the votes will be conducted.

She adds that the observers will also observe the implementation of voting procedures, whether the right to vote and the right to a secret ballot are enjoyed in practice, and also pay attention to whether election officials act in a fair and impartial manner.

Kyenge has since urged the observers not to interfere in the electoral process, but adhere to the code of conduct.
