UNU INSITUTE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (UNU-IRADDA)
(DUTY STATION: ALGIERS, ALGERIA)

The United Nations University (UNU) is searching for an entrepreneurial director for its new institute to be located in Algiers, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, which will focus on the social, economic and cultural dimensions of sustainable development, including its governance.

The principal objective of UNU-IRADDA is to contribute through research, postgraduate education and advanced training and dissemination of knowledge to the resolution of pressing challenges of sustainable development, in particular in relation to the African Continent.

Qualifications: A Doctorate in a relevant social or natural science. Strong research background and publications record in the area of sustainable development and/or issues of human security and development.

Experience: The successful candidate should have an established scientific profile in social, economic and cultural dimensions of sustainable human development. Demonstrated capacities in building and sustaining international networks and partnerships as well as strong international fund-raising skills and experience.

Candidates should possess excellent management and communications skills with fluency in French and English. Fluency in Arabic is highly desirable.

Interviews of shortlisted candidates will take place in early March 2015.

UNU INSTITUTE ON COMPARATIVE REGIONAL INTEGRATION STUDIES (UNU-CRIS)
(DUTY STATION: BRUGES, BELGIUM)

The United Nations University (UNU) is searching for an entrepreneurial director for its Institute in Bruges, Belgium which focuses on regional integration. The UNU-CRIS Director has the overall responsibility for the direction, organization, administration and programmes of the Institute under the direction of the Rector of UNU.

The principal objective of UNU-CRIS is to contribute through research and training to a better understanding of the processes and impact of intra-and-inter-regional integration from multi-disciplinary and comparative perspectives.

Qualifications: A Doctorate in the field of social sciences, including political science, law, geography, economics or other related discipline. Strong research background and publications in areas of regional integration studies with special emphasis on comparative research.

Experience: The successful candidate should have an established scientific profile in comparative regional integration studies preferably from a trans-disciplinary perspective. Demonstrated capacities in building and sustaining international networks and partnerships as well as strong international fund-raising skills and experience.

Candidates should possess excellent management and communications skills with fluency in English. Familiarity with the research and higher education sector in Flanders would be desirable.
