Job Summary

The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Zambia is funding, through the Tenth European Development Fund (EDF 10), the Conservation Agriculture Scaling Up (CASU) project which will run for four years from 2013.

The overall aim of the project is increase crop productivity and production amongst farmers practicing conservation agriculture.

The Communications and Reports Officer will be primarily responsible for report writing as well as developing and implementing the visibility and communication strategy of the CASU project for Zambia.

The Communications and Reports Officer will work under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative and the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator, he/she will work in close collaboration with the FAO Communication, Partnerships and Advocacy (OCP).

Duties and responsibility

Communication and visibility strategy:

In consultation with and in receipt of prior endorsement from the ELI Delegation in Lusaka, develop and implement the communication and visibility strategy of the CASU I project for Zambia:Intensify and maintain a steady flow of information on the project amongst all partners and the media:Write press releases;Produce press kits. including editing and updating FAO publicity material (i.e. fact sheets maps) as needed;Organize and take media on trips to project sites;Write human interest stories. including taking photographs:Write project update stories, including taking photos, as required;Contribute to the production of’ information material within the FAO Representation (newsletters, journals, CDs, fact sheets, posters, etc.);Collect and edit project photos — post photos on FAO Zambia shared drive, share with media if appropriate, and send to the Regional Office and HQ for their team:Organize for project staff and other stakeholders to appear on radio call in shows.

Write and edit project reports:

Ensure that donor—funded project reporting processes are systemized;Ensure that all project periodic reports i.e. monthly. quarterly, interim, final and donor specific reports arc compiled in a timely manner capturing project impact against the project log frame.Ensure that reports arc developed using the most professional business writing and formatting with comprehensive analytical presentation of information;Ensure that reports portray and take into account a framework for Gender Equality Programming;Prepare project updates and situational reports as required by FAO Headquarters and Regional and Sub—Regional Offices;Facilitate compilation of data and information from different project components for development of comprehensive project reports;Work closely with the project Monitoring and Evaluation team (or impact oriented reporting;In coordination with the Monitoring and Evaluation team, monitor, review, assess and report on all dimensions of project components

Minimum Requirements:

University degree — in journalism. Communication. English or other relevant subject;Proven experience and ability to write in English clearly, accurately and creatively;Familiarity with agricultural development issues in Zambia;Expertise in information and communication technologies:At least 5 years working experience in a related field;Basic design and layout skills tor documents:Excellent team player.

Additional skills and experience:

The following additional skills and experience should be desirable:

Proven professional photography experience:Experience overseeing or participating in video or radio production;Ability to design web pages or other graphic design skills:Agricultural knowledge.
