Today I’m talking about Spring 2016 fashion trends! The beginning of spring brings warmer days, shorter hemlines, and, most importantly, an excuse to freshen up your wardrobe with the latest styles of the season. From instant classics to red-hot trends, this spring’s offerings are filled to the brim with vibrant, feminine, and chic fashions.

The Mini Skirt

Though the longer, more demure midi skirt stole the spotlight throughout fall and winter, spring is all about showing off some leg with the flirty, ultra-feminine mini hemline. And while it may not seem as though this particular style is as versatile as your favourite pair of jeans, Refinery29 notes that the mini skirt is one of those pieces that can actually be worn so many different ways. Choose a mini that fits well (it should hit right at mid-thigh) and pair with a flat shoe and a looser top or jumper for an ensemble that is ideal for just about any occasion.

The Mini Handbag

Skirts aren’t the only trend going mini for spring. This season, designers are showing a slew of tiny purses that make for a pretty, dainty finishing touch. The mini satchel makes Forbes’ list of top six handbag trends of 2016, further cementing it as the must-have accessory for the spring. Though small, these petite purses feature eye-catching designs and details, such as metallic accents, intricate embroidery, and three-dimensional texture.

The Maxi Dress

Season after season, the maxi dress makes the list of warm-weather essentials — and it’s not difficult to see why. Easy to style and even easier to wear, the maxi effortlessly walks the fine line between casual and chic. According to Spring 2016 fashion trends, choose a dress that offers a comfortable fit and colourful design. Lyst points out that easy jersey maxis and styles featuring bold prints (*like the quintessential spring floral) are ideal for weekends, whether you’re running errands around town or heading to drinks with friends.

The Billowy Sleeve

With ’70s-inspired fashion still in full swing, the billowy sleeve is a natural addition to the spring 2016 lineup. Like bell bottoms for your blouses, this trend infuses your outfit with a romantic, bohemian feel. Look for a billowy sleeve style with a soft floral pattern to fully channel ’70s chic, or opt for a more structured silhouette in a solid hue for a more polished effect.

The Flat Mule

A more practical alternative to heeled styles, the flat mule is perfect for the breezy days of spring. Even better, this shoe comes in a wide range of designs to appeal to every aesthetic. Leopard print, luxurious suede, black patent leather, and lace are just a few of the season’s flat mule options. To make this shoe work for casual events, WhoWhatWear suggests pairing this easy-to-wear style with cuffed or cropped jeans for an effortlessly cool effect.
