You sit down to plan your upcoming travels for the year focused on that one place. Then you start talking to your friend who’s just come back from a Bali health retreat and you crave a little of that serenity yourself.
You see a photo on Facebook of someone walking through the green hills of Ireland. Your mind flashes back to memories of delicious pints of Guinness drunk with your mates in a cosy Irish pub listening to traditional music. You haven’t been back since you lived there in 2002 and you long to return.
Then it’s a story of London and Paris. Someone mentions the Grand Ole Opry and you’ve almost booked your flights back to Nashville.
It can be sooo confusing. There is too much to see and do and not enough time to do it in.
Our travel story will be changing in 2017.
If you’re a long time follower you’ll know we’re planning a massive road trip across the US. How we plan on doing that and our planned route is changing constantly – the problem with the flip-flopping mind.
We’re hugely excited to go there, but for more reasons than just travelling America. It’s because we’ll be in the Northern Hemisphere.
As we said to our friends the other day over a glass of wine and talk of travel plans for 2017, we’ve pretty much done all we’ve wanted to do here in Australia.
For us, and for the growth of our business, the Northern Hemisphere is where it’s at. There are so many more opportunities for new travel experiences and stories there.
Living in the US means we no longer have to travel for days to reach destinations. We can be over in London in a few hours, Europe will be on our doorstep (by Aussie standards) and the Bahamas, Cuba, and Mexico could be quick getaways for us.
I’m buzzing with excitement over the rich travel experiences on the horizon for us over the next few years or longer.

London

I’ve had far too many conversations with people recently about London and reminiscing about our previous travels here.
I lived in London for almost three years in 1997 and it kicked off my desire to live in as many countries as I could and travel forever. I have not been back since 2003. With the falling Pound, London looks good for travel in 2017.
My niece is there at the moment and I’m enjoying following her trip!

Can you believe I’ve never been to Hawaii? It’s been a dream destination of mine since the Brady Bunch visited. We’re thinking it could be the perfect way to start our America Unplugged road trip.
A relaxing and adventurous island holiday in the tropics before we hit the winter chill on mainland USA.

So, when we lived in Raleigh our fave team was the University of North Carolina (UNC) who won the NCAA Basketball Championships twice. I say that means we have great luck for the Tar Heels. We think 2017 will be their year for another win.
It’s always been on our bucket list to attend March Madness. Fo those non-basketball fans, that is, the college basketball national championships.
It’s in March and it’s mad fun. The other day we got a bit excited to think we could actually fulfil a ten-year dream and get ourselves there. A quick google search told us it’s in Phoenix, Arizona!
Cuba

Cuba is such a hot destination. I know because thousands of people read our Cuba posts on our site each month. Everytime another person leaves a comment, a tip or story, I feel compelled to research a little more.
My sister is also going at the beginning of next year. I’ve been super tempted to join her!
Last week, American Airlines and Jet Blue started flying to Havana for the first time in 50 years.

Skiing in Colorado
We visited Snowmass in June this year and fell in love. We’re super keen to get back for ski season in February or March. My life won’t be complete until I fulfil my long time dream of skiing in Colorado!
If we can’t make it happen for the ski season of early 2017, we’re intending on having a White Christmas in Colorado in 2017 with friends from Australia.
Now the other problem I suffer with is how can I do all of this right now?! Writing this post was quite torturous for me as we wait drumming our fingers on the table for our US business visa approval so we can get flying and make all of this happen!!!
