Pawan speaks to his fans on his birthday(2nd sept. 2003)
Q : Should fans have to wait for one more year for your
next film to hit the screens?
A : Yeah, they have to wait till next March. But in the
next 12 months from now, 2 films of mine will release. The second one will
release some time in October.
Q : You seem to be very glamorous now. Does the story
demand this change, or is it for fans?
A : Its for fans firstly, then the story also demands me to
looks glamorous.
Q : Why are your films kept far away from the media?
A : First the media come to sets and show much interest,
now also it remains the same and I prefer to keep it that way.
Q : By keeping it that way, a hype will surround the
film. Audience expects something very different when the film is kept under
wraps?
A : The hype is not because the film?s details were under
wraps. If you earlier film is a hit, they expect more from your next film. So
after 5-6 hits the hype became tremendous.
Q : After the debacle of Johnny ? which lacked
commercial elements, what will your next film be like?
A : Johnny did not flop as it lacked commercial elements.
There were a lot in it. Its only that the story and screenplay were not
gripping. Moreover, our presentation also was not apt. That?s the reason the
audience did not receive the film. I don?t want try something different in the
next film. It will be in my usual style only.
Q : Were you able to direct Johnny as you expected in
your mind? Did the output come as per your expectations?
A : More than a director, I failed as a story writer.
Q : Will you direct a film once again?
A : Will we stop directing just because we failed once.
Q : Screenplay or story ? for what do you give more
preference?
A : Screenplay and narration are more important. Story wise
most films are the same. How we present them is more important
Q : What can we expect from your next film?
A : Nothing. Watch it like just any other film, then you
will like it. Expect new elements, but don?t imagine what they would be.
That?s something I can guarantee. In my earlier films Hindi songs, English
songs, different styles of fights were all experiments. Some clicked, while some
dint. But I wont stop experimenting.
Q : When people refer to Chiranjeevi as ?Kaboye C.M?,
what is your inner feelings?
A : I don?t feel anything. In another interview also I
told the same thing. To serve the society ? we need not become a C.M or get
into politics. ?Anayya? will continue his service to the society in some
form or the other. That?s for sure. Whether he will step into politics or not
is left to him and for time to tell.
Q : Why don?t you do full fledged mass films?
A : I don?t differentiate class and mass. I take the film
as it is.
Q : Mass in the sense ? the hero does things which a
man can?t do like chases, trashing up goons etc., In most of your films ?
the hero?s character is what a common man can relate to.
A : Yeah, incase I get a proper script, that supports it I
am open even for the so-called mass films you say.
Q: You have told many times that you will act with but
till now that is not happened why?
A: Nobody
approached us with a solid and concrete script. If it happens and both of us are
satisfied, we will definitely do it.
Q: When you will meet fans as like your brother Chiru?
A: When are where shall I meet them.
Q: Chiranjeevi garu meets fans on Saturdays, at public
functions, marriages etc., So why don?t you interact with your fans like that?
A: I haven?t sketched out a plan ever to meet my fans. If
I am in town ? I will mostly shooting and will be busy. If there is no
shooting I am out of town on some work or the others. That?s how I don?t get
to meet them.
Q: Fans do not know your mailing address, PRO?s number
etc., to convery any message or suggestion to you. They too give some valuable
advices. How do you plan to bridge this gap.
A: Ramesh (Pawan Kalyan?s associate) and Ravi (PRO) will
see all those things. Fans can communicate with them. One can catch them easily.
Q: Why you don?t respond gossips about you?
A: We just cant keep defending ourselves from gossips. If
one dies, the other arises. How much time does it take to create a gossip? Snap
your fingers, tell to some one and it spreads like wildfire. So its better when
we don?t respond to some.
Q: But such gossips are hurting the sentiments of your
fans.
A: While some gossips are better avoided, a few are
dangerous. When such a situation arises, I will definitely respond. It happened
recently also (DC-Pawan issue). There shold be a limit. Once it crosses that,
only then do I need to respond.
Q: Not much has been spoken about Pawan Kalyan Creative
Works since Kushi.
A: The team changes every film. Its just to give a break to
budding youngsters who are full of talent.I will introduce new person and wont repeat them for long. For the next
film a new batch comes in.
Q: How can anyone get entry into your team? What are the
formalities, what are the requirements for them to join?
A: Its easy ? there are no formalities. The person must
have some kind of talent in things which are related to films like scripting,
screenplay, painting, editing anything. They get into the team by contacting
Anjana Productions. Then worthwhile and good candidates will be forwarded to me.
Q: Your mannerisms in the film you have done have become
very famous. How do you prepare to this?
A : While I listen to the story I get involved in the
character. Then the thoughts will automatically arise in my mind and I use them
in films.
Q : Why do you remain silent in public functions?
A : During such functions, there are many seniors on the
stage I don?t know how to speak in front of them. Moreover, I don?t know how
to address my fans. That?s why I prefer to remain silent.
Q : But its not picturesque to see a active on-screen
Pawan to be dim and dull in real life?
A : Okay, then I will try speaking something the next time.
Q : Do you watch films of other heroes? What the films
you have watched in recent times?
A : Yeah of course I watch other films also. I watched
Gangothri, Manmadhudu, Nuvvu Naku Nachav in recent times.
Q : Are you open to act in multi-starers with other
heroes outside your family?
A : Yeah ? I am open to this option also. Again, provided
the script is perfect and has some freshness. Its also exciting to do multi-starrers
as you can share responsibilities with the film.
Q : I your 8 years in the industry, and being 8 films
old, what is it you have learned?
A : Hmm. Not to be carried away by our success and not to
be bogged down when you meet failures. Take both with the same spirit.
Q : Why do you encourage only new directors, when many
experienced directors are willing to work with you?
A : Not many big directors approached me with a script.
It?s a just what others say. I dot differentiate directors are new ones or
experienced ones. Story, presentation is important to me. Why so? Krishna Vamsi
is an experienced director. He approached me with a script, and I gave the
initial go-ahead for the script. It?s still in the negotiation stage. Hope
this justifies your question.
Q: What you will do in your leasure time?
A: I spend most of the time reading books. The book I am
reading now is ?How to crack creativity?
Q: Your professional rival ? Mahesh Babu said in many
interviews that there is no number one till Chiranjeevi retires. What is your
comment to that?
A : It simply shows how cultured a person Mahesh is.
That?s the kind of respect you need to give to a senior star. Again, if I
comment on such issues it turns personal. But as a Chiru fan ? I always like
to see him as number one.
Q : Has Johnny?s failure damaged your image?
A : When I got success I have never though I hold any
image. So where does the situation arise when my image is damaged when there is
no image at all.
Q : Why don?t you act with directors who have made
successful films with you in the past.
A : Yeah. I am doing one with Karunakaran. I am also open
to do so, incase anyone comes and approaches me with a concrete script.
Q : With which directors have felt good working with?
A : All of them were good. I share a special attachment
with Puri Jagganadh and S.J Surya and they were humorous persons.
Q : Though you might not believe in ranks, what do you
think is your rank according to outsiders.
A : I rank the 9th. (with a big smile) ?
points to the number 9 on his t-shirt.
Q : No, please tell us seriously.
A : I told you I don believe it. Whether I believe it or
not, the audience have their own rankings in their minds. I respect what they
say ? because they are the people who are supposed to make the verdict.
Q : But your fans claim Pawan Kalyan is number one after
Chiranjeevi, how do you feel about it?
A : I will just listen to them, nothing else.
Q : While most other young stars are on a record
publishing spree, why is it you don?t encourage such things, when you really
hold some.
A : It leads to an unhealthy competition and atmosphere. It
will create fights and tiffs amongst fans. I don?t want them to waste time
over such trivial issues. Everyone knows when a film makes and breaks records.
We need not publish them.
Q : Why has the story of Anjana Productions project been
changed 3 times so far?
A : Not 3 timees, but 2 only. Tiger Seetharamudu requires
shooting amongst animals, and some special effects to be done and takes a lot of
time. Already my fans are waiting for my next movie. So I have not called it
off, but just postponed it. The next story too dint come to my satisfaction.
Q : What is you character in Anjana Production?s new
film?
A : It?s a happy-go-lucky character. It?s a simple,
entertaining story about what lover boy does for his love.
Q : Who are your best friends in the industry?
A : There are many good friends, no best friends. I knew
Venkatesh garu before I entered films itself. Then Puri Jagganadh, art director
Anand Sai is also close to me.
Q : Tell us some details about your next film on
Vyjayanthi Movies banner.
A : It?s a family drama film, embedded with many other
elements. I will tell exactly when the time comes.
Q : How are celebrating your birthday?
A : Like any other day. Its not any special day, I don?t
give it much importance.
Q : What is your message to your fans?
I am not such big a person to give a message to
them or advice them. But, I would ask them to take films as a part of their life
rather than make films as their life.
