Volunteer Eshwar interacting with Chiguru winners

Volunteers Aishwarya with winner’s family

Namaste,

I am aishwarya a part timer volunteer at youth for seva. Through chiguru we got this wonderful opportunity of getting to meet some incredibly talented kids from various schools and tuiton centres run by yfs and its partner ngo’s.. What made us even more proud was that few of our kids even bagged prizes on chiguru. Our hearts swelled with pride when we saw them perform and win. All this while that we trained kids and kept meeting them regularly we became good friends with them  , but due to some constraints we could not meet them after the big day And so one fine day we all decided to meet few kids for lunch at their homes who won prizes on chiguru.

6 volunteers met at saraswati shishu mandir kphb last week on sunday. The 3 kids were eagerly waiting for us at the school with a big smile on their faces. It looked like they just couldn’t wait anymore to take us home. I was accompanied by a volunteer called eshwar. We went to indusha’s place. Her mother gave us a warm welcome. She had arranged everything perfectly for us in the small tiny room they lived in. To our surprise there were too many things for us to eat , honestly we dint expect that we would be served such a sumptuous meal. Initially the kids and their mother denied eating with us saying that we were their guests and they would eat after us , only after we coaxed them a bit they agreed to sit with us and eat. Indusha’s mother told us everything about her family their lifestyle , it was great fun talking to her. We then asked her if she knew who we were and from where we came and what chiguru was all about , she said she had no clue.

We then breiefly explained to her abt yfs , our activities and how we got in touch with her daughter. She thanked us for doing all this and said i thought my daughter was kidding when she said two people are going to come to our place for lunch , none of us at home believed her know when i see you i feel this is all real. The kid and her sibling playfully told us all their secrets.

We then finished our lunch and just then the kid’s father came home. He greeted us and excused himself , he was back in 5 mins with a fruit juice in hand for us. We could not take soo much of  love, we thought it would be better if they had it other than we having it and so refused to drink it. We then spoke to both the parents that their kids had brilliant talents hidden in them and they only your encouragement. We told them that you should be proud of your children.

All this while that we were speaking to them we could see the parents getting emotional. There were tears of joy and fulfillment. Coudlnt be a  better sunday , couldnt be a better lunch. All of us volunteers felt honoured and humbled. We had never felt so accomodating and welcoming anywhere else before. Looking at people who are less fortunate than us in many ways gave us soo much to take back. Was definitely an eye opener.

Thanks YFS  for giving us this wonderful platform and I’m definitely looking forward to more such visits and meeting some of the purest souls across the city.

Warm Regards

Aishwarya
