At the heart of what we do is an innovative streak that sees us continually looking for new and better ways to serve our customers. We work closely with our colleagues across the bank to deliver the solutions they need to achieve our business strategy goals.

What you can expect

You’ll start with a two day induction alongside other interns, including an introduction to banking, key skills workshops and an overview into the various areas that you’ll be connected with during your internship.

After your training you’ll join your assigned team for a 10 week placement, and there are several areas to choose from. You could join Shared Services where we look at high quality bank wide services, or Payments where we shape our payment strategy and facilities, or help us translate business strategy for our Customer Franchises. You could even share your ideas and create insight in Design, or help Transformation to implement customer focused and strategic change programmes.

Whichever part of the business you join, you’ll be making an important contribution, and your initiative, passion and hard work will play a part in building a bright future.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for people who share our passion for customer service. You’ll be able to engage with key stakeholders across our business and to create effective relationships.

We need you to be confident and analytical with an eye for spotting opportunities to make things better. You’ll always be motivating yourself and others to be the best that they can be.

Whatever your degree discipline, we welcome your application and ask that you’re on course for at least a 2:2. You don’t need any specific UCAS points.

Development and support opportunities

From the first day you join your team, you’ll have real responsibilities, and structured training and mentoring while gaining real, hands on experience. The opportunities to network with our experts, graduates, business leaders and senior managers are endless.

Your time with us will be incredibly varied. We want you recognise opportunities for change, both in how we serve our customers and how we do business with each other.

By the end of the programme, you’ll have enhanced your team building skills, process knowledge, communication and influencing skills. We’ll help build your knowledge about change management, property portfolios, using large data sets for analysis and how this all comes together to serve our customers. We’ll also give you a taste for project and change management in a large, corporate business.

Future career path

If you share our determination and passion, and show us what you can do, you may be given the chance to join our graduate scheme the following year. This will allow you to further showcase your talents and build on the skills that you have started to develop in your internship.

Our previous interns have moved into a variety of exciting positions. From a Management Information Analyst conducting in-depth research, and supporting strategic thinking, to transforming the way we do business with customers as a Business Analyst – you define your future by working with us.

Core Functions

Risk

Managing our risk is absolutely vital to RBS’s stability. Today it underpins our reputation, performance and future success more than ever before. An internship in our Risk function is a chance to gain valuable experience of our business-critical functions, and develop important professional skills.

View programme details

What you can expect?

You’ll have a unique opportunity to develop your knowledge of multiple risk disciplines such as Operational Risk, Enterprise Wide Risk Management, Market Risk, Capital Risk and Risk Infrastructure.

During the internship you’ll spend 10 weeks in one of our business areas gaining a real insight into how they operate and fit into the wider Risk community. You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to network, gaining exposure to different areas of Risk so you have an understanding of where you might spend time if you join our graduate programme.

Who we're looking for?

To succeed in Risk you’ll need to be curious and independent minded. You should be the type of person who looks at the bigger picture and thinks long term, while embracing change. You’ll be passionate about seeking and understanding the information which allows you to make sound decisions, and provide well reasoned recommendations to our businesses.

The decisions our colleagues make might have a wider effect on the economy, on our brand, and on our customers. It’s Risk’s role to manage this. To do that, we’re looking for people with strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to manage stakeholders and communicate effectively.

The Risk function is very diverse, and we’re happy to consider applicants studying any degree subject. However many risk roles have a strong quantitative or analytical component, and study fields such as Finance, Mathematics and Economics are likely to give you valuable transferrable skills. You don’t need any specific UCAS points but you should be on course to achieving a 2:1 degree.

Development and support opportunities

You won’t be here to shadow. You’ll be assigned real responsibilities and have structured training, giving you the opportunity to build an important understanding of the risk area you’re based in. You’ll also have the opportunity to widen your understanding of the areas of Risk through interactions with stakeholders across the function.

You’ll be exposed to a variety of different roles across the team, assisting each of them on their specific projects over the course of the internship. Your responsibilities will be varied, from analysing data to pulling together reports and presentations for business stakeholders. Once you’re orientated we’ll give you a project, asking you to exercise your creativity to bring new ideas to the way our business works.

By the end of the 10 weeks you’ll have built the knowledge to make important contributions to team meetings.

You’ll learn about the three lines of defence risk management model. Depending on which area of the function you’re based in, you may have the opportunity to shadow in one of our customer facing businesses.

And crucially you’ll have the chance to experience our unique culture and values, and find out what sets us apart from other financial organisations.

Who we’re looking for

We want you to bring your passion, because we know we can help shape it to so you can reach your full potential. If you’re hungry to learn, professional, confident, positive and enthusiastic, you have the right attitude to work in C&RA.

We’re a varied function, and you don’t need to be studying a particular subject to succeed here. However, degrees such as Economics, Law and PPE provide the most potent transferable skills and act as a good foundation.

You don’t need any specific UCAS points but you should be on course for achieving a minimum of a 2:1 degree.

Development and support opportunities

You’ll be assigned real responsibilities and given the opportunity to build an important understanding of the area you’re based in, and what the overall C&RA function does.
