Due to the risk of impact injury and drowning, a recall is being issued for Lil' Luxuries infant bath tubs with fabric slings. According to a recall alert posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website, the fabric slings can separate from the tub. If this occurs, it presents a risk of drowning and injury. The recall affects about 86,000 bath tubs.
The bath tub is manufactured by Summer Infant, who received 91 reports of the sling detaching. In 11 cases, the sling detachment caused a bump to the head.
"Fabric slings on the recalled infant bath tubs can detach from the tub, posing a risk of impact injury and drowning." the recall alert states. The products affected include the Lil Luxuries Whirlpool, Bubbling Spa & Shower with fabric slings. The tub is designed for children from birth to two years old. It is a battery-operated whirlpool bath with motorized jets. The tub utilizes a fabric sling on plastic frame, which is where the infant is placed during the bath. The sling can detach from the recalled product because "The fabric sling on the recalled bath tubs does not have a white plastic attachment clip to hold the headrest area of the fabric sling to the plastic frame" the alert states.
The recalled products were sold between October 2012 and October 2013 with date codes starting with 1210, 1211, 1212, 1301, 1302, 1303, 1304, 1305, 1306, 1307, and 1308. These numbers indicate the two-digit year followed by the two-digit month on the fabric sling. Items numbers affected include: 18840, 18850, 18863, and 18873.
