Iglesia Nueva Canzion Health Fair to host community blood drive to save lives
DALLAS, Texas (Aug. 14, 2015) – Did you know that more than 70 percent of Carter BloodCare volunteer donors are first-time donors? Usually, blood donors give for the first time at their place of work or worship or maybe at their high school blood drive. Even when you give the first time, you can save up to three lives with each pint of whole blood. After you give once, we encourage you to invite someone else to join the lifesaving efforts and then come back with them.
If you still want to save lives but may not be eligible to donate blood yourself, Carter BloodCare suggests considering booking a blood drive. It is a nice way to bring a community together, and may even be hosted in honor of someone that received blood through a trauma or health crisis. Email bookablooddrive@carterbloodcare.org to start the easy process of setting up a blood drive in your community.
Iglesia Nueva Canzion Health Fair is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at 431 Pleasant Drive in the parking lot on the Carter BloodCare bus. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Jaziel Corona at (214) 646-7012.
This August, Carter BloodCare and Fox Sports Southwest are teaming up to give Carter BloodCare donors the chance to win ticket packs for their favorite hometown pro-sports teams. Give a pint of ‘life’ and visit carterbloodcare.org for more information.
It is a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water at least an hour before giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation, and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood.
Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may give independently and there is no upper age limit for donating blood. For more information on donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
