The National Day of the American Cowboy kicks off on Friday, July 24th with the Hall of Fame Rodeo at Cowtown Coliseum located at 121 E. Exchange Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76164. Don’t miss all the action and family fun including Bull Riding, Barrel Racing and Bronc Busting! Tickets are $30 for Box Seats, $20 General Admission and $15 for children 12 and under. Doors open at 7 PM and rodeo action begins at 8.

On Saturday, July 25th, The Dr. W. Marvin Dulaney Western Heritage Symposium will take place from 9a.m. until 12 noon.  Guest speakers include Debbie Liles, Ph.D., Traditional and Online History Lecturer and Undergraduate Advisor at the University of North Texas.  Dr. Liles will discuss “Black Slaves in the Texas Cattle Industry” which examines the correlation between slavery and the livestock industry in Texas from 1845-1865, which will soon be published as Southern Roots, Western Foundations: The Peculiar Institution and Livestock in Texas, 1845-1865 (under contract by LSU Press).  Other topics include the rich history of the Buffalo Soldiers and the Chisholm Trail. The symposium will take place at the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum located at 3400 Mount Vernon Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76103. Saturday evening, The National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum (NMWHM) will honor nine iconic cowboys during its annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Banquet at River Ranch located at 500 NE 23rd Street, Fort Worth, TX, 76164 in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. The VIP reception begins at 6 followed by the induction ceremony and banquet at 7 PM. “This year’s class of honorees is an absolutely stellar group of cowboys,” says NMWHM Co-Founder Jim Austin. “They come from all walks of life and have achieved tremendous success in their respective fields all the while maintaining a commitment and dedication to the western way of life.”

This year’s honorees include: Oscar winning actor and Grammy winning singer Jamie Foxx, Dallas Cowboys legends Walt Garrison and Randy White, Judge Paul Brady, Danell Tipton and Steve Murrin. Posthumous inductees include: Holt Hickman, Harvey Means and Gordon Tonips. The NMWHM and Hall of Fame is dedicated to honoring the men and women who have made exemplary contributions to the history of the West past and present.

The primary objective of the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum is to offer the visitor a true and complete historical perspective of the people and activities that built the unique culture of the American West.  The work of artists who documented the people and events of the time through journals, photographs and other historical items are part of the museum’s new collection.
