We’re committed to bringing you the best employee engagement people practices ever, which is why we’ve asked both YouEarnedIt customers and non-customers to let us in on their methods. The Motley Fool started us off, and now, we turn the spotlight onto online retail marketing company and YouEarnedIt customer, Adlucent.

Brian Vogel, Head Coach of People & Culture, gives us the Adlucent approach to employee engagement, company culture and tactics for drawing in—and keeping—great people.

Question: What has been the best thing you’ve done that’s made a difference in your culture and employee engagement efforts?

Answer: We have focused recently on two of three primary areas research has shown to accelerate engagement: selecting the right people and enhancing employee’s well-being. In terms of selecting the right people we have completely revamped our hiring process and have introduced science into the decision process by including several different skill and culture-fit assessments. Our 35+ step recruiting process has a reputation for being brutal and honestly we are fine with that if it means we are selecting the right people for our organization.

Question: What are some other ways you engage your employees?

Answer: In regard to employee well-being, we have introduced YouEarnedIt as well as something called our Balanced Life Series. Having an easy vehicle to deliver continuous, timely, and positive feedback is a “no-brainer”. One study found that when people were enabled to recognize peers for good work, they were 107% more likely to identify themselves as highly engaged. Our Balanced Life Series is a once a quarter lunch-and-learn that focuses on delivering practical, relevant information designed to increase an employee’s well-being inside and outside the workplace. As an example, we partnered with FitSteady to deliver a program called Clean Eating 101 in the first quarter of this year.
