**Role Outline/Job Summary**
The Global Research Center (GRC) in Mumbai works with Equities Research, Fixed Income Research, Commodities, Rates, Structured Products, Equity Quants and Economics Research teams. It also handles various critical functions such as Research Distribution, Global Data Services, Publications, Modeling and Risk Management.
The Fundamental team in the Mumbai GRC covers Global Equities across sectors such as Financials, Metals and Mining, Industrials, Consumer, Energy, Utilities and TMT. An opportunity exists to join Citi’s Fundamental Equity Research team as Financials Pod Head. The Financials Pod consists of 1) Dedicated and non-dedicated Associates (7-8 staff) covering Banking sector for regions such as China, HK, the UK, Nordics, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Middle East and Africa, 2) Modeling Associates (2-3 staff) and 3) Library Associates (2-3 staff).
The Pod Head will cover stocks as a Primary Author and work closely with Pod staff to support coverage of existing companies and launching new coverage.

**Role and Responsibilities:**
**Day-to-Day Responsibilities:**
The Financials Pod Head will cover/help cover stocks as a Primary Author/Secondary Author and will be responsible for managing the Mumbai Financials Pod comprising Dedicated and non-dedicated Associates, Modeling and Library Associates.
The key responsibilities associated with this role are the following:
**Stock and Client Coverage:**
+ The Pod Head will cover a set of stocks as a Primary Author. The Pod Head may also be required to support coverage as a Secondary Analyst; thus making notable contribution to the team’s overall coverage.
+ The Pod Head will lead client interactions on the stocks covered as a Primary Author over various forums such as client calls, conferences and investor days. The Pod Head will also execute on a select client calling list based on shared client coverage responsibilities of the team.
**Stakeholder Management:**
+ The Pod Head will partner with Research Management and work alongside Analysts, Associates & Operations Team Leads. Should display strong interpersonal and problem solving skills to manage relationships with junior as well as senior colleagues.
+ This is a Research Management role. The Pod Head will report to the Head of Fundamental in Mumbai and be actively involved in all management issues concerning Financials Pod.
**Thought Leadership:**
+ The Pod Head is expected to be a thought leader on products, client requests and new initiatives. The Pod Head is expected to be on top of the latest industry news, insights and issues of interest.
+ This role involves stock coverage as a primary author. Hence, the individual’s name will be published on the front page of the report on products where the individual has made notable contribution.
+ The Pod Head should actively look for opportunities to generate ideas (research ideas, ideas regarding operations, workflow, communication, databases etc.).
**Project Management:**
+ The Pod Head will help execute projects displaying strong project management skills. The Pod Head will engage with dedicated associates along with Library and Modeling team to execute assignments on database management, financial modeling, report writing (company notes, thematics, primers, earnings notes. Periodicals and new products), client requests and vetting.
+ The Pod/Head will engage with modeling team to plan initiations during the year. The Pod will be responsible for entire background work on initiations of a number of stocks across regions during the year by taking assistance from dedicated associates, library and modeling team.
+ The Pod will work on on-demand assignments from Analysts across the globe. The Pod Head will lead such projects while managing workflow, resource and time constraints.
**Team Leadership:**
+ Delivery Lead: The Pod Head will assume full responsibility of all the deliverables sent from the Financials Pod. The individual will work alongside Pod staff and monitor “Quality” for each of them. In many cases, given the nature of work, it is not possible to define quantitative metrics and hence it is important to develop a culture of ‘client delight’ by constantly pushing for excellence in service delivery.
+ Hiring, Training and Mentorship Responsibilities: The Pod Head will be involved hands-on in the hiring process. The Pod Head will be required to recruit high quality Associates while looking for new and replacement hires. Specific activities include finalizing the job specifications after consultation with the on-shore analyst and conducting preliminary interviews.
+ The Pod Head will be actively involved in ‘Training Needs Identification’ and will pursue and monitor training goals for each of the Pod staff. On the job training and offhand coaching is widely encouraged and the Pod Head will be required to proactively work towards Pod staff’s development needs.
+ Performance Management: The Pod Head will interact on a continuous basis with on-shore analysts to seek feedback on the Pod staff. The Pod Head will be required to identify low performing Pod staff on an ongoing basis and work with them as well as on-shore Analysts to achieve desired performance standards. The Pod Head will be responsible for deciding year end performance rating for the Pod staff within the bell curve constraint.
+ The Pod Head should help create an environment which is conducive to employee growth and development; eventually leading to attrition levels less than industry average. The Pod Head should tightly control the post attrition scenarios by managing expectations of onshore Analysts, proactive hiring and transitioning the role to the new Pod staff.

+ MBA from a premier academic institution and/or CA (preferably from Big Four Accounting Firms)
**Experience:**
+ 6 years (min) of equity research experience
+ Experience in working on coverage assignments involving multiple stakeholders across geographies
+ 10+ years of equity research experience (Preferred)
**Certifications:**
+ CFA certification is recommended
**Skills:**
+ Prior demonstrated experience of managing large diversified teams operating in an offshore/global environment
+ Advanced Equity Research skills involving data management and analysis, modeling, accounting, valuation and financial report writing
+ Prior experience in covering stocks through active participation in framing the investment case and determining the stock call
+ Prior exposure to client facing scenarios (internal clients - sales, sales traders, traders and external clients – portfolio managers, buy-side associates) such as presentation over morning call, interaction with clients over in-person meetings, phone calls, conferences etc.
+ Excellent knowledge about the Banking sector. The individual should be well versed with the development in the Banking space and be able to provide views on the developments with the sector. Strong leadership skills in a sell side equity research context
