**Description**

· Technical leadership of assay development teams to produce innovative molecular assays for the hospital based lab environment.

· Ensuring assay development is consistent with FDA regulations and EU CE-IVD directives.

· Responsibility for all aspects of product development including: technical design, budgeting, timelines, staffing through design, verification, validation and design transfer.

· Accurately assess organizational strengths and development needs based on business strategy and work with other managers to develop plans to address any gaps.

· Promote collaboration and communication between R&D departments across Beckman Coulter.

· Stays abreast of key issues and trends utilizing internal and external contacts and industry data to identify potential opportunities or threats to the company.

· Support a culture of continuous process improvement and advise process improvement teams.

· Mentor staff and display a strong commitment to coaching and development to contribute to career development within the R&D department. Provides quality assurance for adherence to technical standards.

· Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.

· Responsible for ensuring personal and company compliance with all Federal, State, local and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.

· Responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition.

· Performs other related duties as required.

**Qualification**
Ph.D.in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, genetics or related field. At least 8-10 years’ experience managing teams performing highly technical product development in a commercial setting. A minimum of 5 years’ experience developing molecular IVD diagnostic assays. Strong record of scientific accomplishment in fields relevant to molecular diagnostics (infectious disease, oncology, genetics). Experience in design transfer of diagnostic assays into a manufacturing environment. Direct experience with FDA or EU CE-IVD quality requirements and the preparation of relevant documents for the submission of product information to these agencies.
