Java Developer - Platform, P&I IoT & Customer Innovation
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The P&I IoT & Customer Innovation team is building the next generation investment analytics and market insights platform called Sentinel. Sentinel blends Algorithmic Trading with deep News Analytics into a disruptive synergy. It leverages SAP’s in-memory database (HANA) and text analytics capabilities. It exposes and monetizes these services as scalable REST APIs on the Cloud, thus enabling the creation of a new generation of investment applications. Our sole purpose is simply this: to help millions of investors identify profitable trading opportunities with minimal cognitive overload. The end-goal is to build a system that is simple but not trivial; deeply quantitative but not confounding; advanced but not abstruse.

We are currently looking for a deeply hands-on developer who will play a pivotal role in the implementation and delivery of these ideas from a backend system perspective.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• B.E. (or higher) in Computer Science from premier institution
• Demonstrated hands-on leadership in implementing large-scale consumer web platforms that scale to millions of users
• 3-5 years of hard-core software development experience. More experienced candidates will be considered as well
• Strong experience in large-scale backend development for big-data platforms (search, machine learning, data mining, ecommerce, social networking, text analytics, finance), server-side Java, high-scale databases, RESTful Web APIs and microservices, data streaming (e.g. Kafka), etc.
• Strong Computer Science background
• Proven track record of out-of-the-box, innovative thought and action
• Varied and diverse interests outside of work, constantly focused on lifelong learning
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong mentoring skills
• Exposure to computational finance (portfolio optimization, options, derivatives) and algorithmic trading will be a plus but not mandatory
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
The Main responsibilities of this job are:
• Acquire a deep knowledge of key topics in computational finance (or text analytics) that are relevant from an engineering perspective
• Design, implement and deliver key components of Sentinel
• Scale the system to a very large number of users (1-10 million per customer)
• Mentor younger members of the team; help build their engineering skills and professional perspective
• Document, publish or patent all IP that is generated
