**Role Summary/Purpose**

As Executive, Software Engineering, you will provide technical leadership and be responsible for building and leading multiple lean/agile software engineering teams across GE Oil & Gas Digital product lines.

**Essential Responsibilities**

• As our new Executive, Software Engineering you will:

• Manage the software development process, including planning, task assignments, code reviews, and design sign­off.

• Establish and run agile development and DevOps rhythms, rituals, and artifacts.

• Focus on customer outcomes. Collaborate with Product Management on product roadmap planning, functional and non-functional requirements and product release planning to ensure we’re building a world-class SaaS product.

• Build and maintain a world-class team and own the staffing, head-count planning, functional skill mix, expertise, and training programs and processes.

• Work closely with key stake­holders across the organization to define the technology roadmap that is aligned with the strategic goals of the product group.

• Build a culture that motivates and energizes the best engineers and encourages the career development of junior team members.

• Demonstrate independence, creativity and initiative and the ability to master a solid understanding of the Industrial Internet strategy and its business goals.

• Be a hands-on leader. Conduct and participate in review code, review design docs, give technical talks, teaching classes and develop future leaders.

• Run a tight ship. Manage development costs to plan; strike the right balance between contract and full-time labor; efficiently procure hardware and software; constantly strive for quality and velocity improvements.

• Communicate effectively with your team, peers, and GE leadership. Ensure the team receives consistent messages and has a clear understanding of the business environment, product strategy and the results that matter

• Demonstrate the highest levels of leadership integrity, openness, compliance and honesty in all business interactions

**Qualifications/Requirements**

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

• A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in software engineering and product development with minimum 10 years of leadership experience

• Minimum 5+ years of experience managing/leading software engineers, developing functional specifications and design, build vs. buy analysis of software products

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience developing software in an Agile environment

• Minimum 5+ years’ expertise developing complex SaaS software

Eligibility Requirements:

**Desired Characteristics**

• Expertise in agile project management and a proven track record for delivering projects on­time with limited budget and resources

• Experience working with engineering teams in multiple locations and time zones.

• Experience in creating and rapidly scaling high performance software development teams.

• Strong distributed systems and architecture knowledge, and experience with multitier architecture

• Mission critical systems experience is preferred

• Ability to manage complex technical projects.

• Demonstrates expertise in problem solving and technical innovation.

• Demonstrated experience of delivering on commitments to clients.

• Demonstrates capability of 'rolling up sleeves and getting hands dirty'.

• Works well in fast paced growing environment.

• Experience developing applications in an agile/DevOps environment would be a distinct advantage, including previous experience of writing code

• Experience working in a Java web development shop

• Solid understanding of software development tools & infrastructure

• Strong oral and written communication skills including executive level presentation skills

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

• Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers

Technical Expertise:

• Proven track record of strong people management within at least one discipline and or expertise within the discipline. Strong cross functional collaboration and influencing skills at high levels. Ability to make decisions that have deep impact.

• Guides, influences and determines decisions regarding companywide adoption of new technologies. Evangelizes modern technologies to development teams, stakeholders and GE executives.

• Prior experience with working across the full technology stack, including the use of cloud services and micro-services architecture

• Prior experience launching a SaaS product for commercialization

• Experience of managing a large (70+ people) geographically distributed engineering team

• Evangelizes new technology, predicts trends, and identifies new opportunities based on trends. Acts

• as industry expert by participating in defining standards and open source initiatives.
