**OpenStack Engineering Team - Responsibilities:**

The Cerner OpenStack Architecture and Engineering team is responsible for Cerner's Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud solution. The team works on many bleeding edge technology projects and has a need for a software engineer who will be working with a team of system engineers and network engineers to do coding, design, troubleshooting and reverse engineering open source (primarily Open Stack) code. This position requires good demonstrable experience with developing object-oriented and RESTful API driven applications for the Linux platform. It also requires flexibility, willingness and ability to learn new techniques, and supporting open source systems and frameworks. You have to be able to articulate and justify in clear and logical terms any recommendations that you make.

**Lead Architect - Primary Responsibilities:**

+ Deliver and support high-quality OpenStack and Ceph proofs of concepts and pilots that result in customers' confidence in our offerings

+ Create content that enables the broader organization to design, service, and support our OpenStack solutions at scale

+ Be the trusted internal Subject Matter Expert for the organization, building long-lasting relationships within various internal consumers of the service

**Lead Architect - Key Areas of Responsibilities:**

The job duties of the Lead Architect includes, but is not limited, to the following:

+ Create, monitor and report project performance, managing project resources and timeline to ensure on-time delivery without sacrificing high quality standards.

+ Developing and maintaining a detailed project plan. Lead planning and/or implementation of projects; Participate in the design, development and/or testing phases.

+ Guide all teams through complete development lifecycles and provide technical guidance and assistance as needed; Promotes diversity and creates a respectful work environment.

+ Identifies the technical approach to be used on a given IT project and manages the system development process including the development of a strategic plan, systems analysis, technical design, coding, testing and acceptance of an IT system and/or application.

+ Pro-actively engages present and future stakeholders in design, priority setting, and implementation.

+ Motivates project team members to action. Identifies common themes, makes inferences and draws conclusions.

+ Recommends information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating organization outcomes; identifying problems; evaluating trends; anticipating requirements

+ Deliver cross organization liaison and communications to ensure full understanding of all teams impacted by project.

+ Makes decisions and takes timely independent action in pursuit of priorities.

+ Motivates project team members to action. Identifies common themes, makes inferences and draws conclusions.

+ Pro-actively engages stakeholders in project design, priority setting, and implementation.

+ Review and recommends project design and development approach, ensure integrity in the current architecture and system performance.

+ Troubleshoots issues of diverse scope; analyze and evaluate data for identifiable factors.

+ Independently manage significant issues and projects of a unique nature, with little existing process is currently in place.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

+ 6 to 10 years in a related technology position, including consulting, pre-sales, operations, development, and related internships

+ Experience with the design and operation of medium to large-scale enterprise and cloud infrastructures, databases, and application systems with high-availability requirements

+ 3 to 5 years of experience in Object Oriented Language such as Python, Java

+ 3 to 5 years of experience with cloud and Linux technologies

+ 3 to 5 years of experience in working with Database (MySQL or Oracle) and Message Queues

+ 1 to 2 years of experience with developing applications with RESTful APIs and test-driven design

+ Passion for open source, software, tooling, and automation

+ Solid written and verbal communication skills

+ Ability to work overtime and irregular hours when needed

+ Some On-Call rotations, with minimal pre-planned or emergency after hours support requests

+ Ability to learn and apply new technical skills and concepts quickly

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ BE in Information Technology, Computer Science or MCA

+ Background in designing and delivering implementations using cloud infrastructure technologies and providers, e.g. OpenStack, KVM or Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV), VMware, Hyper-V, Xen, Rackspace Cloud Services, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure

+ Extensive experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration and design

+ Experience with automation frameworks and tools such as Puppet, Ansible, or CFEngine

+ Advanced skills in command-line tools and scripting languages

+ Agile experience and expertise with OpenStack Development process

+ Experience working on Open Source projects as a committer

+ Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

+ Innovative, self-motivated, and able to interact with all levels of the organization

+ Knowledge in Network, SAN and IBM/HP hardware
