Solution Architect - Professional Services
The Professional Services Advanced Integration team is responsible for supporting the integration of PayPal's payment, identity and platform capabilities, as well as representing the wider product set available to major global strategic partners and merchants as well as high potential disruptive start-ups. Working in conjunction with the Global BD team, you will use your business acumen to support the pre-sales/partnering process through negotiations and solution brainstorming, and your technical acumen to lead the technical design and implementation of a variety of high volume consumer and merchant solutions including web and mobile applications, Marketplaces, OEMs, browsers, platforms, operating systems and point of sale devices. We need a fast innovative thinker who is able to quickly recognize opportunities with partners and apply their exceptional technical skills to the merging together of the multitude of APIs and experiences available to build simple, useable solutions consumers and merchants will love. The Solution architect (SA) directly supports the assigned Business Development representatives located globally, as required, both in the office and in the field, throughout the pre-sales and integration process. SA also acts as the "voice of the customer" when providing feedback to Product Managers, Technology, and other internal groups on ease of use and new function/feature needs.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Solution Architect will take a leadership role within the team by mentoring newer engineers, leading team projects as assigned, and assisting the team manager in developing and implementing strategic and tactical goals and objectives required to enhance the success of the team, the Professional Services group, and the company.
Specific Responsibilities include
*Pre-sales engineering and leading solution discovery during pre-contractual stages of strategic partnerships
*Develop Solution Proposal and Solution Designs that define the solution and how it is to be implemented by the partner engineering team
*Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery
*Represent the full internal and external API capabilities of PayPal
*Become a recognized technical expert with the internal product set and act as a guide for Global BD partners in identifying potential solutions for new market verticals
*Own technical delivery of a working solution from design, through to working with partner engineering teams through integration, testing, implementation and launch
*Work closely with internal teams including compliance, privacy, risk, information security, support and operations to ensure all aspects of a launch are managed
*Ensures partners implement optimal integration strategies, techniques and user experience best practices
*Responsively identifies and troubleshoots integration technical issues both internally and with partner
**Requirements**
+ Bachelor degree in computer science.
+ 5+ years of experience with Internet and mobile technologies including Web Services, APIs, REST, HTML/HTTP, iOS, Android and leading web and mobile application frameworks.
+ 5+ years of experience with three or more major programming languages (C++, Objective-C, C#, Java, JavaScript, Ruby, Perl, .NET, PHP, Python).
+ 3-5 years Technical Product Management.
+ Thorough understanding of MVC application architectures.
+ Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal in English.
+ Ability to successfully interact and dynamically adapt communication styles.
+ Ability to lead others and perform mentoring duties such as defining training needs, coaching, and providing constructive criticism.
+ 25% domestic and international travel, with a current passport and no history of declined visas, or entry refusal to any country.
**Preferred Experience**
+ Master of Science degree or MBA (preferred).
+ 8+ years overall work experience.
+ 4+ years of experience with Payments (Credit Card, Banking, Online, Offline), especially with ecommerce systems, payments gateways and payment processors is highly valued.
+ 4+ years of experience in Integration Engineering or Professional Services, preferably with large to enterprise-level companies engaged in ecommerce.
+ 2+ years of industry experience with Marketplaces, OEM devices, mobile, or retail POS systems.
+ 3+ years of experience with system discovery process, requirements gathering, systems architecture, and development.
+ Ability to translate requirements into detailed design documents.
+ Ability to analyze strategic objectives and define specific tactical goals required to achieve them.
