Blurb:

Sometimes you can’t change—and sometimes you just don’t want to. Discover Ben’s side of the story in this fourth novel by the beloved, top-selling indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths,One Tiny Lie, and Four Seconds to Lose.

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

Review by Michelle:

Every single book in the Ten Tiny Breaths series is a completely different and unique experience with characters so complex, so endearing, so captivating it could go on forever and never become tiresome. Five Ways To Fall by K.A. Tucker is funny, sexy, heartwarming, and irresistible.

Ben from the Ten Tiny Breaths series gets his own book. Ben. Smug, cocky, playful, ladies man Ben could fall in love? Who would have guessed? It was always easy to see Ben's charm here and there throughout the series with the slightest allusion to more behind his womanizing ways. But is he capable of having a real, substantial, emotional, committed relationship? Apparently when he meets his match and eventually gives up his strict anti-commitment stance, it becomes a distinct possibility. Ben is smart and witty, surprisingly sweet with a heart of gold and of course gorgeous. He also has a completely unexpected background that has skewed his perception of commitment and molds him into the playboy he has become giving him so much more depth and complexity than ever anticipated.

I adore unexpected, unintentional, sneaks-up-on-you love. I love when a heroine think she knows what she wants and that only one man will ever do, then through the process of a little scheming and whole lot of deception to win back that man, finds the one she least expects turns out to be what she was looking for all along. I love when a man with serious commitment issues finds that love has crept up on him right under his nose and one day smacks him over the head with the one woman he gradually let his guard down with and inadvertently let in little by little because he never once considered her a threat. I love when these two characters are the absolute last to recognize what is happening between them and even when they do, they still fight it, and I love the sweet satisfied feeling you get when they finally give in and embrace the inevitable.

Not only was this a slowly mounting, sexual tension laden romance with witty banter galore, it was also a touching story about family and repairing broken relationships. It is amusing and fun and light and then it's not. There are some very real, very heavy circumstances and events that transpire striking the perfect balance between light hearted and carefree and tear jerking and emotional.

The end of Five Ways To Fall marks the end of an incredible series which certainly goes out with a bang. I am sad to see one of my favorite series go but overjoyed that it went out on such a high note. Though I realize that a series can never go on indefinitely, there is not a single character that I have been introduced to in any of these books that I would not love to know more about with a story of their very own. I am just delighted that Ben finally had his say.

Not all standalones can be thoroughly appreciated on their own, but as with all of the books in this series, Five Ways To Fall is an outstanding story in its own right and can and will be readily loved and enjoyed independently. I do however, strongly recommend reading the series in its entirety as I can all but guarantee you will not be disappointed.
