CAPAS, Tarlac – A typical trek to Mount Pinatubo before took hours to complete and a day’s supply of perspiration. But today, a novice need no longer fear the very demanding trail leading to the popular volcano because it now takes only a 15 minute drive to reach the kick off spot of the trail, minus the treacherous skyway, this according to Mayor Antonio “TJ” Rodriguez.
Mayor Rodriguez said thanks to this latest express road leading to the volcano’s crater which has become a popular tourist destination a few years after its destructive eruption, the amount of visitors to the famous spot has doubled during his stint.
The town of Capas here in Tarlac is the closest gateway to Mt. Pinatubo compared to Pampanga and Zambales.
Rodriguez added that his office was able to legalize the collection of access fees at the Mt. Pinatubo tourism site. For the first time in Capas town history, tourism has become a source of revenue for the municipality.
Mayor Rodriguez promised during his second term as mayor of Capas, he would continue to uphold these endeavors and develop other historical spots in this town in order to entice foot traffic which will effectively bring in revenue for the municipality which can be used to build infrastructure projects for his constituents.
