CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Central Luzon region is inviting all artists to join a painting contest which will highlight the 46th Founding Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on August 7 of this year.
DFA officer-in-charge Arturo Romua told Sun.Star Pampanga yesterday that the ASEAN-Philippines painting tilt themed “Our People, Our Future Together,” was organized by the department’s Office of ASEAN Affairs with the view of bringing ASEAN into the consciousness of Filipinos.
“The ASEAN-Philippines painting contest encourages participation among Filipino artists. This is a good opportunity for local artists in Central Luzon, particularly in Pampanga where there are a lot of talented painters and art enthusiasts to showcase their works and win prizes,” he said.
Romua added that the tilt — an initiative of the Philippines — not only aims to commemorate the anniversary of ASEAN, but also pushes for the promotion of its identity in support of the establishment of the ASEAN Community by 2015.
“That is why we are calling on and inviting all interested artists to join this historic painting contest,” he quipped.
The contest is open to all Filipino artists 15 to 30 years old, who can field one entry which is completely original, a new work, and free of any third-party rights. The contestant must not have held any solo exhibit.
Interested artists are required to submit the duly accomplished entry form, a maximum 400-word biography, five 5-inches by 7-inches high resolution photos of the artwork (one full shot, two close up detailing the painting, and two progressive photos which shows the artwork being done) and original or reproduction of sketches.
The painting, in oil or acrylic on canvas only, must measure 2-feet by 3-feet exclusive of frame (works exceeding this dimension will not be accepted); ready for hanging; the entry should be unsigned; and work should be framed “box type” or “museum wrap.”
All entries will undergo screening by a panel of judges which will select 30 semi-finalists to be put on exhibit from August to December 2013 and in 2014. Thereafter, 12 art pieces will be chosen as finalists and will be used for ASEAN promotional materials like posters and calendars.
The prizes for the painting tilt are certificates of excellence and P50,000 for the winning entry; P35,000 and P25,000 for the second and third spots respectively.
Forms can be downloaded from http://www.dfa.gov.ph and entries must be submitted on or before July 10 to the Office of ASEAN Affairs, 8th Floor, DFA, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City or through email at aseandivision4@gmail.com.
