CB1 Gallery is pleased to present a summer works on paper exhibition, A Few of My Favorite Things, organized by gallery director Clyde Beswick. “For this group exhibition, I wanted to gather work by a selection of some favorite artists, several we represent and others we don’t. The artists in the show range from some whose work I collected beginning in the early ’80s through mid-90s to several recent discoveries,” said Beswick. “Like Maria and Oprah before me, these are a few of my favorite things.” The exhibition, not by any means a complete list of favorite artists, opens on June 30 and closes on August 18, 2013. A reception for the artists will be held at the gallery on Sunday, June 30, 2013, 5 – 7 p.m.

The exhibition consists of works on paper or, more accurately on or using paper in some way, by fourteen artists. Some draw or paint on paper, others collage, fold, cut, burn or weave. For some the paper pieces are, more or less, studies for work in other media; for others their work is exclusively on paper. The entry wall to the exhibition will be dedicated to a jam-packed salon style hanging that might have existed in Beswick’s home had the work shown been included in his personal collection, during his intense collecting days.

Referencing several of the artists in the exhibition, Beswick said, “Karen Carson was one of the first artists whose work I acquired when I moved to LA. A more recent discovery, Emily Davis Adams’ watercolors, brought to my attention by gallery artist Alexander Kroll(whose new work is included too), are also in the exhibition.” Other gallery artists’ work in the show includeLorenzo Hurtado Segovia’s woven paper pieces, drawings by Laura Krifka, Larry Mantello’s temporary tattoos on paper, a new series of collages by Timothy Nolan plus paintings on paper by Jaime Scholnick, Mira Schor. and Craig Taylor. Non-gallery artists’ work included are hallucinatory, humorous drawings by Brian Scott Campbell, Donna Ruff’s cut and burned paper pieces, drawings of heterosexual intercourse by NY artistBetty Tompkins and Michelle Wiener’s folded paperback book sculptures.
