Anything short of a medal will be an upset for the rising star, who put her PhD program on hold in 2010 to put her entire focus on the London 2012 Games. On Day 13, Canada is hoping to see middleweight (75kg) boxer Mary Spencer fighting for a gold medal. Along with womens boxing, Spencer is making her Olympic debut and is a podium favourite. Spencer was the 2010 world champion in this weight class in 2010 and a two-time world champion in the 66kg division. Spencer got into London 2012 with a wildcard berth after failing to qualify at the 2012 World Boxing Championships. Spencer was pegged for gold there but after a first-round bye, she was upset by Swedens Anna Laurall. Spencer is among the 11 wild cards in a 36 woman field of fighters. Spencer said heading into London 2012 that shes her own biggest obstacle and as long as she has the right mindset she knows she will win. Later on Day 13, another young Canadian will make her Olympic debut with medal hopes and expectations on her mind. Leah Callahan will wrestle in the Womens Freestyle 72kg weight class and may be able to surprise her opponents since she has never competed as a senior at the World Championships. Callahan won silver at the 2010 Pan American Championships and improved to win gold in at the same competition in 2011. One of Canadas final gold medal hopefuls, Catharine Pendrel, will compete on Day 16. Pendrel will race in the womens mountain bike cross-country. Pendrel competed at Beijing 2008 and finished just off the podium in fourth place. This time, Pendrel is the favourite and is coming into London 2012 on quite a roll. She won the Olympic test event and won gold at both the 2010 and 2012 World Cup and is the reigning world champion.
