OTTAWA (CIS) – There are three changes atop CIS national rankings this week. The University of Windsor Lancers move up to No. 1 in womens basketball and mens track and field, while the University of Calgary Dinos are the new leaders in mens athletics. In other CIS sports, Carleton (mens basketball), McGill (womens hockey), Alberta (mens hockey, mens volleyball & mens wrestling), UBC (womens swimming & womens volleyball), Toronto (mens swimming) and Brock (womens wrestling) all maintain their No. 1 status. Womens basketball The reigning two-time CIS champion Lancers move up two spots in the ninth coaches poll of the season after they improved to 13-0 in conference play thanks to road wins over McMaster (6-7), 56-48, and Guelph (4-9), 68-53. Windsor had topped the first six polls of the campaign before dropping to third place behind Fraser Valley and Regina two weeks ago. The national champs will look to resume their winning ways when they host McMaster on Wednesday and visit Waterloo (0-13) on Saturday. Rounding out the leading quintet in the new Top 10 are the undefeated Saint Marys Huskies (11-0), who move up two positions to a season-high No. 2; Regina Cougars (12-2), down one spot to No. 3; Fraser Valley Cascades (11-3), down three to No. 4; and Carleton Ravens (10-3), up one to No. 5. Fraser Valleys reign atop the national rankings came to an abrupt end after only two weeks. After winning 11 of their first 12 league contests, the Cascades dropped their two road games in Alberta last weekend, 79-69 in overtime to No. 10 Calgary (12-2) and 64-59 to Lethbridge (6-8). Mens basketball Carleton (12-1) crushed visiting Queens (9-5) 104-63 on Saturday in its lone outing of the past week. The reigning CIS champs play three more home games this week, first on Wednesday night against No. 8 Ottawa (11-2) in the annual Capital Hoops Classic at Scotiabank Place, and then versus York (5-8) and Laurentian (7-6) this weekend at the Ravens Nest. Womens hockey McGill (13-0-0) went 2-for-2 at home this past weekend, including a hard-fought 4-3 win over No. 4 Montreal (12-3-0) and a lopsided 6-1 decision against Ottawa (3-8-3). The undefeated Martlets hit the road later this week to battle Ottawa on Friday and Carleton (5-7-1) on Saturday. Mens hockey Alberta (18-4-0) showed no mercy against visiting Lethbridge (1-19-2) last weekend, sweeping the struggling Pronghorns 4-1 and 9-1 in Edmonton. The Golden Bears face another provincial rival this week as they visit No. 10 Calgary (14-8-0) on Friday before returning home to host the Dinos the following night. Womens volleyball UBC (15-1) scored a pair of straight-set decisions against winless Thompson Rivers (0-16) in Kamloops. The reigning six-time CIS champion Thunderbirds should face a stiffer test this weekend when they host No. 8 UBC Okanagan (11-5) for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader. Mens volleyball Alberta (16-0) was up to the challenge in Brandon against the No. 6 Bobcats (10-6), winning both duels by identical 3-1 scores. The undefeated Bears host No. 9 Winnipeg (8-8) on Friday and Saturday. Wholesale Jerseys .com arena. WHITBY, Ont. -- After cruising through the Minto Cup round robin with a perfect record, the Orangeville Northmen reached an even higher gear Friday night in the opener of the best-of-three tournament final. The Northmen scored four times in the first period and built a 10-2 lead after two en route to an emphatic 19-7 victory over the Coquitlam Adanacs at Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby. The Northmen, who won their three group stage games by a combined score of 32-13, beat the Adanacs 9-5 in the tournament opener. They easily surpassed that margin of victory on Friday. The early lead was important for the Northmen, who hadnt played since closing out the round robin on Tuesday, but it was an outstanding second period that made the major difference. The man in the middle of most of that was Mitchell Jones, one of 13 Northmen in their final year of junior lacrosse. Jones had five points in that second period on the way to finishing with six goals and 13 points to front the Northmen attack. "It means a lot to get that first game, but obviously the second one is still to come," Jones said outside the room afterwards. "It was a full team effort and our team knows whats at stake." Brandon Benn, Rob Hellyer and Cody McMahon fired home three each with others coming from Ian MacKay, Jordan Critch, and Jordan Dance with two. Northmen coach Matt Sawyer knows the series is far from done, buut still remains more concerned about his own club than the opposition.dddddddddddd. "To be honest, and this is no disrespect to Coquitlam, Ive been consistant with this all year in that we dont worry about who were playing," Sawyer said. "We worry about our game. Whatever game they bring, theyll bring it and were going to focus on ourselves being better than we were tonight." Coquitlam looked nothing like the team that knocked off host and defending champion Whitby Warriors in the semifinal on Wednesday. They struggled to find their grove on offence, while the Orangeville attack gave their back end, and the goaltending duo of David Diruscio and Riley Camazzola, fits all night long. Col Schafer and Wesley Berg each scored twice for the Adanacs, while Robert Church, Vincent Ricci and Ben McIntosh added singles. But Coquitlam coach Neil Dinsdale expects a much better effort out of his club when the two teams return to the floor for Game 2 of the series on Saturday night. "Thats ones over with and its on to tomorrow," said Dinsale, whose team won the Minto Cup two years ago before losing to Whitby last summer. "We just didnt play the way we needed to play. We lost our shape. We lost our focus and they played better than we did. "One game doesnt win you a Minto Cup. Coquitlam won one game last year and they didnt win the Minto Cup. It takes two." ' ' '
