This is the only agavaceae family member that grows native on my property. I used to know the name, now I can't locate it again.

It is an interesting member of the family. The leaves appear in spring. The core of the plant is several inches below ground, surrounded by a sheath of dead leaves that leave only the fiber intact, so a tuft of fiber is all you see in winter before the leaves emerge.
