It’s nearly that time again, and we will all be on the clock on Monday! yes you will,although I can hear you deny it you know you will get it.
We here at Xbox Players know the signs. Our poll on this was conclusive, our membership voiced their opinions, its overrated and crap.
But when that time comes and you switch on your Xbox 360, the notification bar will tell you that 70% of your friends are playing one of the most anticipated games this year and for many years to come.
The story that you told it will all go away. SO you denied it too sound cool,it is ok, and is a long way of the mark.
But lets face it EVERYBODY has tried Grand Theft Auto at some point weather it was Grand Theft Auto itself on PlayStation or Grand Theft Auto Vice City, which still has one of the best soundtracks of all time.

1997: Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto (originally titled Race’n’Chase), was one of the most outrageous game to be released of its time. Set in 3 locations, the streets of New York, Miami and California. The missions to steal as many cool cars without getting caught but to do it in a maniacal fashion. This made for amazing conversations for gamers, talking about real locations to their friends as if they had pulled of a heist in their backyard. Remember having to report to a telephone booth to get your missions? Awesome groundbreaking, just plain different.
It was released too 3 formats at that time: Windows PC, PlayStation, and Game Boy Colour. Truly ground-breaking stuff from the guys at Rockstar Dundee
April 1999: Grand Theft Auto London
Grand Theft Auto London 1961 was released on the premise that London was missing as a major location in the game world and was released as a download for the PC only. This was received well and fans on PlayStation demanded they get the expansion as well however an expansion on PlayStation meant a disc being produced. So it had to be made.
They did this but renamed it so they could take advantage of another download to the PC, thus Grand Theft Auto London 1997 was released in April 1999 only 3 months after the add on for the PC.
1999 September: Grand Theft Auto 2
Grand Theft Auto 2 was the last 2D version of the game. This was to be released for PC, PlayStation, and Dreamcast however the ratings were different on the formats. Rated 18 on PC and Dreamcast, fans of the series were treated to more violence and bad language whereas the PlayStation and Game Boy Advance versions had been toned down to a lower 15 rating.
This game was set in a made up City, known only as ’ANYWHERE USA’. this was possibly the real difference between the two original 2D versions and to be honest wasn’t nearly as good as its predecessor, well its better stealing and robbing neighbourhoods you knew wasn’t it? it still was gta however it just didn’t have the realism.
October 2001: Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto III, 3D had arrived in Video Games by the time this hit the shelves and boy did this really launch Grand Theft Auto into Orbit!
This really set the heather on fire with Strong sexual overtones and Violence in new ways due to the new 3D game engine. It took you back to Liberty City originally one of three locations in GTA. The city lends itself well to the gameplay, (and revitalised by GTA IV), as it was originally based on the city of New York.
Claude robs a bank with his girlfriend and accomplice, Catalina, gets caught and banged up for 10 years. simple enough really but where this game differed from the originals, Claude gets busted out from the trip to the pen and you take control of him to begin your life of crime.
THe fact you played as a solo character wasn’t the gas, nope being able to interact with the environment and properly beating people up was huge fun, in an adult kind of way.
Set for Multiple platforms Grand Theft Auto III was released in 2001 on Xbox, PlayStation 2, Mac, PC, by DMA the developers (part of Rockstar Vienna).
This game was based in 2001 however if you look at the chronological path of the games you can see that this was in fact set after the next series of games. We didn’t know that at the time of course it was just amazing fun to play at that time.
October 2002: Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Grand Theft Auto Vice City is a game based around the 80′s culture in Miami, allegedly Drugs were a natural thing for people to be doing at that time because in this game it was the main focus, not like the Rockstar North boys to create a new way to shock eh? Tommy Vercetti was released from prison, which he had served his time for a drugs bust gone wrong.
Looking for vengeance Tommy needs to build a strong enough empire to challenge those responsible. The city is masive and although not named is very loosely designed to reflect Miami as well. The home of Don Johnson, TV Cop extraordinaire. But with a massive twist you weren’t the Cop you could drive along that strip to your hotel a massive amount of times and not get bored.
Its was a sequel that was effectively made it a prequel. Got your head around that? Well never mind, the game was Immense, great music, massive amounts of violence, the greatest soundtrack ever due to the era it was set in (80′s) and well ok you guessed it my favourite!
Released for Xbox, PlayStation 2, Pc and Mac you couldn’t top that could you?
October 2004: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas was completely unique to videogames, (and this is a fact people do not shoot the messenger), the lead Character was Black! this had never been done before but that was not the main issue with San Andreas as it was later referred to, (or GTA San Andreas), Nope the ‘HOT COFFEE MOD’ was!
A hidden in-game mini game that could be unlocked had scenes of a sexual nature involved, however later editions of the game had this ‘mini game’ removed, however the rest still caused controversy and still does to this day. But we all know that this was probably the game that had the worlds kids clambering for it. The game was the second time Rockstar had used the fictional series in a real time environment and Los Santos, San Andreas was the location for the main storyline of the game, but you will soon find out what has become of Los Santos. (in GTA V)

October 2005: Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories
Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories was the game to take your Grand Theft Auto on the move so to speak, released first on PSP (PlayStation Portable), then later on PS2 (2006), but NOT on Xbox. Rockstar knew they had a great way back into the handheld market with this game, the console was designed for young adults on the go so why the hell not?
This featured the fictional Liberty City and well was ok
October 2006: Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories
Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories was another PlayStation Portable game ported to the PlayStation 2, and took you back BEFORE Vice City again a mediocre release that tried to reinvent that original Vice City look and feel.
April 2008: Grand Theft Auto IV
Grand Theft Auto IV Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, yes it was released on PC, but not until later. This had become the most anticipated games in the newest generation of Consoles. Midnight launches were in full swing at that time and the events followed on from there.
Nikko Belic made this title step it up again from the drab PlayStation Exclusive spin offs. San Andreas took a back seat and Liberty City was the place to be.
Nikko was an immigrant with a dream to become someone and make his Girlfriend happy of course. The game was enormous in comparison to previous Grand Theft Auto games. Massive in fact. You could even fly planes
Two spin offs from the original storyline arrived in the shape of The Lost and the Damned as separate storyline, this was released as Down Loadable Content (DLC), that was later put to disc form.
Another Spin off from the main game was released again in the form of DLC however this again was later put onto Disc.
The Final piece of the jigsaw saw the Nintendo DS published title Grand Theft Auto Chinatown wars released, and subsequently it was released for the PlayStation Portable (PSP)
