It’s a well deserved honor for the man who runs Boston’s Classic Rock, 100.7 WZLX. You hear him from time to time on the air, but most of Mike Thomas‘ role happens behind the scenes.

Since taking the helm at WZLX eight years ago as program director, Thomas has guided the station to the top of the radio ratings in Boston. In fact, last year the station was awarded a coveted national Marconi Award for Rock Station of the Year.

This week, Mike Thomas was personally recognized as one of the best in the radio business by a leading radio industry trade publication.

Thomas, who is also Vice President of Programming for CBS RADIO Boston and Program Director for 98.5 The Sports Hub (WBZ-FM), has been named the #1 Major Market Program Director in America by Radio Ink Magazine.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by your peers. Accolades like this are personally rewarding, but they wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for all the talented people I have the privilege to work with every day. They make my job easy,” Thomas said about his honor.

Thomas has nearly 25 years of top management experience as a radio program director. In addition to running WZLX since 2006, he’s been calling the shots for 98.5 The Sports Hub since its inception in 2009. He was named Vice President of Programming for the five CBS RADIO Boston stations in 2011.

The list of program directors honored in Radio Ink are broken out by market size (major, large, medium, and small) and are nominated and selected by industry peers.
