‘The Homestretch’ screening shows Wednesday at library
Community Cinema, a co-presentation of the Bud Werner Memorial Library and Independent Television Service’s “Independent Lens,” will present an advance screening of the new documentary film “The Homestretch” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Library Hall.
The film by Anne de Mare and Kirsten Kelly follows three homeless teens who brave Chicago winters, the pressures of high school and life on the streets to graduate and build brighter futures. The film follows these kids as they move through the milestones of high school while navigating a landscape of couch hopping, emergency shelters, transitional homes, street families and a school system on the front lines of the homelessness crisis.
While told through a personal perspective, the teens’ stories connect with larger issues of poverty, race, juvenile justice, immigration, foster care and LGBTQ rights. Visit www.steamboatlibrary.org/events for more information.
Street division to sweep up scoria between April, May
Weather permitting, from April 1 to May 1, the city of Steamboat Springs’ Street Division will be sweeping up scoria that remains on the roadways. Residents are asked to help with this collection by raking out any additional scoria from their property, including the right-of-ways and culverts onto the asphalt shoulder of the roads. Any commercial contractors or property management companies who provide this service must remove the materials themselves.
This scoria cleanup is part of the City’s Particulate Matter-10 Air Quality maintenance plan, and residents are asked to cooperate by not using this cleanup for other debris. Branches that have been trimmed or trees that have been cut down, as well as other refuse, must be disposed of by the resident or contractor.
If needed, additional pickups can be scheduled by calling the Public Works Shop at 970-879-1807.
