Yampa Valley Singers concerts set for weekend
Two concert performances of “I’ve Been Everywhere,” sung by the Yampa Valley Sing-ers, will be presented at 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the United Methodist Church. Selections include many familiar pieces, including America and Surfin’ USA, as well as Brahm’s – A German Requiem and Adiemus. The Yampa Valley Youth Chorus will per-form a few selections, and Randy Kelly will be guest artist. Tickets are $10 and may be obtained from any of the singers or from ALL THAT.
Library holding free screening of "Pump"
Bud Werner Memorial Library and the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council will present a free screening of the film “Pump,” a new documentary about America’s addiction to oil, along with an Alternative Fuels and Gas-Saving Technologies Auto Expo on Tuesday, May 5. The film will screen in Library Hall at 6:30 p.m., and the auto expo will run from 4 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot at the Depot Arts Center.
A variety of alternative fuel vehicles will be on display but YVSC and the library are looking for other alternative fuel/technology vehicles people would be willing to share with the community. Opera Troupe holding auditions
The Yampa Valley Opera Troupe is holding auditions for its fall 2015 school tour pro-duction of “The Goose Girl (Pasatieri),” which will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 24 in the Moffat County High School choir room in Craig and at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25 in the United Methodist Church choir room at Eighth & Oak streets. A pianist will be pro-vided but those auditioning must bring sheet music for their memorized selection. Comic Contest entries sought
Kids in kindergarten through fifth grades are invited to enter the 2015 Book Feast Monster Comic Contest. Children are asked to write and illustrate a one-page comic story that features the Book Feast monster as the main character. All entries will be judged, and winners will receive a special prize. The grand prize winner will have their comic published.
Entries can be brought to either the Strawberry Park Library, Soda Creek Library or the Bud Werner Memorial Library's kids desk. Entries can be submitted anytime before Spring Break, but the last day to turn in entries is Friday, April 17. Visit

New resource for helping those with housing challenges
The new Colorado Housing Financial Assistance Guide provides an array of resources to those across the state who face challenges staying in their home or finding a new place to live.
The comprehensive guide provides information about over 100 organizations across Colorado that offer financial support for those in need of housing help. The guide is available in both English and Spanish at www.caahq.org under resident resources.
The resources are organized by region, covering the Denver metro area, Southeastern Colorado, Northern Colorado, Boulder and the Western Slope.
The guide is provided as a public service by the Colorado Apartment Association, along with additional support from the Colorado Association of Realtors, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, Colorado Housing Connects, and the Colorado Division of Hous-ing.
“Fortunately, there are many organizations doing great work to provide housing assis-tance but tracking them all down may be hard,” said Nancy Burke, vice president of government and community affairs at the Colorado Apartment Association, in a news release. “This guide pulls all these resources into a single source, organized by geog-raphy, to help Coloradans access them quickly and conveniently to find the help they need.”
Two statewide helplines can provide a good place to start for those seeking help. They are the Colorado Housing Connects Hotline at 844-926-6632 and the Colorado Foreclo-sure Hotline 877-601-4673.
Take steps to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
Atmos Energy is reminding customers to take steps to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas and prolonged exposure can be fatal. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, sleepiness, weakness, vomiting, dizziness and tightness in the chest. If you or your family members experience these symptoms, call 911, stop using the suspected gas appliance until it has been in-spected, and call Atmos Energy at 1-866-322-8667.
To help prevent carbon monoxide poisoning:
-Install carbon monoxide detectors on all floors where bedrooms are located.
-Do not idle a car in an attached garage.
-Make sure chimneys and flues are clean and unobstructed and that appliances and portable heaters have proper ventilation systems.
-Remove clutter from around gas furnaces and water heaters, and change furnace fil-ters regularly.
-Do not use natural gas ovens as a heating source.
-Do not use charcoal indoors.
