Sunday’s Diamond Hitch Parade was one of the last events of the 101st Winter Carnival in Steamboat Springs. In the commercial category, Jenni Moose took first place, Schrader Propane took second place and One Steamboat Place and Saddleback Ranch took third. In the adult category, the Rhinestone Cowgirls came in first place, followed by the Routt County Democrats in second and the Steamboat Springs Rugby Clubs in third. The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s Nordic team took top honors in the intermediate category, with the Winter Sports Club’s freestyle and free ski team in second and the Steamboat Springs Middle School Nordic team in third. In the commercial category, Ed’s Excavating was awarded first place, Cub Scout Pack 194 came in second and Snow Wonder placed third.
Olympics screenings will be hosted through Feb. 23
One Steamboat Place will host screenings of the 2014 Winter Olympics through Feb. 23. A live feed shows each day’s events on a 12-foot-wide screen from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Daily viewing parties — with complimentary cookies, cocoa and giveaways — also will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. in front of One Steamboat Place. The parties are free and open to the public.

Bauknecht named to CSU dean’s list for fall 2013
Sydney Bauknecht, a 2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, was named to the Colorado State University dean’s list for fall 2013. Bauknecht has a 4.0 grade point average and is studying health/exercise science and business.
Registration is open for a ‘King Lear’ workshop
Bud Werner Memorial Library presents a six-week reading group focusing on William Shakespeare’s “King Lear” led by veteran English teacher Sally Frostic and a team of local Shakespeare aficionados. The free workshop will be held from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays from Feb. 12 through March 19. First-time and experienced Shakespeare readers are welcome. The overall emphasis is on enjoyment of “King Lear” through discussions, reading brief excerpts aloud and learning about the playwright and his world. US 40, Pine Grove survey begins today in afternoon
The Craig Residency of Colorado Department of Transportation will be conducting a survey in the right-of-way at the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and Pine Grove Road in Steamboat Springs during the afternoon today and Tuesday as well as Wednesday morning with traffic control provided with one-lane closures, weather permitting.
Traffic control signage will be in place throughout the project. Motorists are advised to plan their time accordingly and to use extra caution in this area during the survey work. Delays are possible.

8th annual Ski and Skate event is Saturday at park
Colorado Parks and Wildlife invites the public to Yampa River State Park’s 8th annual Ski and Skate at 2 p.m. Saturday at the park’s visitors center at 6185 W. U.S. Highway 40.
Participants can pick between a cross-country trek on the ski trails, an afternoon of ice skating on the park’s pond or both.
The ski trail will be lit up at night once the sun sets, and people can enjoy some winter fun by the light of the moon and the light of neon-colored glow sticks. After the activities, there will be a campfire along with free hot chocolate and hot dogs provided by Yampa River State Park.
In addition, the Craig Chamber Ambassadors will hold their annual Chili Cook-off at the park beginning at 4:30 p.m. For more information about the cook-off, call Shannon at the Craig Chamber of Commerce at 970-824-5689.
