The family of former Routt County Commissioner and State Highway Commissioner Bill Haight informed the Steamboat Today that he died Sunday at the Loveland Heart Center of the Rockies after suffering a heart attack in Steamboat Springs on Friday. He was 80.
Haight’s family roots in Steamboat Springs go back 100 years. A petroleum engineer by profession, he was a tireless public servant. As a county commissioner, he helped to see that Yampa Valley Regional Airport was built. Haight also served on the Yampa Valley Electric Association and Governor’s Aeronautics and Aviation boards.
A funeral Mass and celebration of Haight’s life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 1605 Lincoln Ave.
Zumba, yoga classes discounted for students
The Teen Council is offering Zumba and yoga classes at Sundance Studio at a discount for high school students to try and increase physical fitness opportunities. The cost is $5 per session, and they are being offered Wednesday and Feb. 12. Zumba starts at 4:15 p.m., and yoga is at 5:15 p.m.
Alcohol training class set for Thursday afternoon
Grand Futures Prevention Coalition is hosting an alcohol responsibility training class at the Steamboat Springs Community Center from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday. This class is an accepted certification for alcohol responsibility training for servers, distributors and sellers of alcoholic beverages in Steamboat Springs and Routt County. The class now is accepted by the state of Colorado.
Grand Futures is a nonprofit organization, and fees collected from this class go directly to its programs and activities that promote healthy lifestyles for youths.

Youth basketball sign-ups still open for spring season

Recycle your electronics at 4 local drop-off sites
The Yampa Valley Sustainability Council and its partners are offering four drop-off locations in Steamboat Springs for the public to safely and responsibly recycle used small personal electronics for free. An expanded list of items, ranging from laptops to smaller items, can be taken to the YVSC office at 141 Ninth St.
Accepted electronics include:
■ old cellphones, smartphones, cellphone batteries and chargers;
■ iPods and MP3 players;
■ digital cameras;
■ tablets;
■ aircards and Bluetooth;
■ ink and toner cartridges;
■ laptops;
■ devices; and
■ headphones.
Additional drop-off locations for all these items include the Steamboat Springs middle and high school front offices when school is in session.
All of the smaller items, aside from tablets and laptops, also may be deposited in the existing cellphone collection box in the Wells Fargo Bank lobby in downtown Steamboat. Habit-busting workshops run March 5 to April 9
Marchele McCarthy is offering a six-week workshop called “Finding Freedom from Old Habits and Negative Emotions,” starting March 5 and continuing Wednesday evenings through April 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The workshop will focus on meditation, relaxation, and other mindfulness techniques to work with difficult emotions and habitual patterns.

Son of Steamboat couple named to college dean’s list
Jonathan Milne, a sophomore at the College of the Holy Cross, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2013 semester.
He is the son of Bob and Laurie Milne, of Steamboat Springs. He is majoring in psychology and Spanish.
