The Conestoga High School girls’ lacrosse team clinched its first Central League title in nine years with an 18-6 win against Springfield May 7. It was the Pioneers’ 17th win in a row. Conestoga heads into the District 1 playoffs as the No. 1 seed and is ranked No. 9 in the United States.

In the victory, University of Cincinnati commit junior Monica Borzillo had four goals and a season-high five assists while sophomore Loyola (Md.) commit Liz Scott had three goals and one assist. Senior co-captain and Drexel commit Maggie Stetson had three goals while Lehigh commit junior Sondra Dickey and North Carolina commit sophomore Scottie Rose Growney both had two goals and an assist.

The defense was led by Cornell-bound senior co-captain Sarah Nicholson with junior Maggie Hansche, seniors Sammy Stephans and Franklin & Marshall-bound Sarah Brooke. Righthanded goalie Jules Horning (committed to play at Marquette) and lefthanded goalie Laney Stenson (committed to play at Delaware) continued to make key saves, as they have all season, splitting time in the cage.

The Lower Merion High School boys’ tennis team won the PIAA District One title May 6 with wins over Central League champ Conestoga and Suburban One National champ Council Rock North.

Lower Merion defeated Conestoga 3-1 in the semifinal and CR North 3-0 in the final. Dual winners Simon Vernier and Matt Chen led the singles trio with Thibault Vernier clinching the championship match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles. The freshman doubles team of Jared Robinson and Omosessan Adebamgbe clinched the Conestoga match with a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 win at second doubles.

In Lower Merion’s 3-1 win against Conestoga, at first singles, LM’s Simon Vernier defeated Eric Yen 6-4, 6-4; at second singles, the Aces’ Matt Chen defeated Nick Ruth 6-0, 6-1; at third singles, LM’s Thibault Vernier led Mike Blank 7-5, 5-5 (suspended); at first doubles, Conestoga’s Steven Yang and Max Howarth defeated Lucas Kreuzer and Nick Legg 6-0, 6-3; and at second doubles, Lower Merion’s Jared Robinson and Omosessan Adebamgbe defeated Quinn Olson and Alex Moon 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.

In Lower Merion’s 3-0 win against Council Rock North, at first singles, Simon Vernier defeated Alex Whalen 6-1, 6-3; at second singles, Matt Chen defeated Matt Whalen 6-0, 6-4; and at third singles, Thibault Vernier defeated Will Summerall 6-1, 6-1. At first doubles, LM’s Nick Legg and Lucas Kreuzer led Jeff Zhao and Adam Frankel 6-4, 3-2 (suspended).

Lower Merion defeated Great Valley, 3-1, in the second round of the district tournament, winning all three singles matches. At first singles, Simon Vernier defeated Nik Gangoli 6-2, 6-2; at second singles, Matt Chen defeated Sam Kesti 6-2, 6-0; and at third singles, Thibault Vernier defeated Charles Swope 6-1, 6-2.

Lower Merion (17-2) defeated South Western (Hanover,PA) 5-0 on Tuesday at Legacy Tennis Club to reach the State quarterfinals in Hershey for the third straight year. The Aces will take on the winner of Cathederal Prep-Shady Side match at 8am on Friday, May 15.

Boys’ lacrosse

Episcopal Academy defeated Penn Charter, 10-4, May 8. The Churchmen (13-6, 7-3) were led by Curtis Zappala (three goals, three assists), Connor Ringwalt (three goals), Chris Friedman (one assist), Colton Johnson (one assist), Christian Feliziani (one goal), Drew Silvera (one goal), Dan Baker (one goal), Jake Martellucci (one goal, one assist), Christian Feliziani (won seven of 12 faceoffs), Colin Reder (six saves) and Dante Moyer (four saves).

Episcopal lost a cliffhanger to Malvern Prep, 10-9, as the Friars scored the game-winner with 0.9 seconds left. Leading the way for the Churchmen were Curtis Zappala (four goals, one assist), Eric Haab (two goals, three assists), Chris Friedman (two goals), Brandon Kopen (one goal), Christian Felizani (won 13 of 23 faceoffs) and Colin Reder (10 saves).

Harriton defeated Shipley, 8-6, May 7 on Senior Night. The Gators brought a 14-3 record into the game.

The seniors came up big for the Rams with Pat Bernicker, Jack Veasey and Stephen Saul all contributing goals. Brian Meyer won 15 of 18 face-offs, and Victor Fink was solid in goal with five saves. Sophomores Will Stahl (goals, one assist) and Hakan Atillasoy (one goal, two assists) were solid contributors, as were Charlie Veasey (one goal, one assist) and Pat Stewart (one goal).

The Rams’ defense, led by senior Ben Finger, was tough for the Gators to penetrate. The Rams finished their regular season at 10-8; which is the most wins that the program has had in more than 10 years.

Haverford School defeated Malvern Prep, 16-10, May 8. The Fords were led by Lane Odom (one goal), Forry Smith (three goals, one assist), Drew Supinski (two goals), Grant Ament (one goal, eight assists), Phil Poquie (two goals, one assist), Dox Aitken (two goals), Brandon Shima (one goal), Alec Haas (one goal), Brendan Jacob (one goal), Jack Doran (one goal), Tucker McBride (one goal) and goalie Alex deMarco (10 saves). For Malvern, leaders included Drew Schantz (three goals, one assist), Billy Coyle (three goals), Quinn McCahon (one goal, one assist), Scottie White (one goal, one assist) and James Rodgers (12 saves).

Haverford School improved its record to 21-0 with a 13-6 win against Springside Chestnut Hill Academy May 5. Leading the way for the Fords was Grant Ament (two assists), Forry Smith (five goals), Tucker McBride (one goal), Drew Supinski (one goal, one assist), Alec Haas (one goal, one assist), Colin Bosak (two goals), Brian Casey (one goal), Corey Richards (one goal), Connor Mosebrook (one goal), goalie Alex DeMarco (five saves), goalie Parker Henderer (five saves), goalie Seamus Glavin (two saves) and goalie Logan Atkins (two saves).

Malvern Prep defeated Episcopal Academy, 10-9, May 5, as AJ Traynor (three goals, one assist) had the game-winner with 0.9 seconds remaining. Jack Traynor had the assist. Other Malvern contributors Tuesday included Adam Goldner (three goals), Billy Coyle (one goal, two assists), Addison Mueller (one goal), Scottie White (one goal), Quinn McCahon (one goal), James Rodgers (seven saves) and Charles Kelly (won 11 of 23 faceoffs).

Radnor defeated Central Bucks East, 13-2, May 8 with stifling defense and a strong offensive output. Radnor’s defense of Mike Farnish, Hal Marshall, Dario Falcone, long stick middie Rod Castro and goalie Alex Andersen (five saves) held CBE scoreless over the last three quarters. Other Radnor leaders were Jack Norton (four goals, two assists), Drew Ryan (four goals, two assists), Jack Wilson (three goals), Clayton Proctor (one goal, one assist), Phil Regan (one goal), Mike Thompson (one assist), Kyler Albany (one assist) and Tom Meyers (won 12 of 19 faceoffs).

Radnor defeated Lower Merion, 11- 4, May 5 despite a strong effort in net by LM’s John Williamson, who had 11 saves. Leading the way for Radnor was Jack Wilson (three goals, two assists), Clayton Proctor (three goals), Jack Norton (two goals, two assists), Kyler Albany (one goal, one assist), Mike Thompson (one goal), Drew Ryan (one goal), Phil Regan (one assist), Hal Marshall (one assist), Adam Neiberg (one assist), Tom Meyers (won 11 of 17 faceoffs) and Alex Andersen (six saves).

Shipley lost to Hill School, 9-4, Monday in the first round of the InterAc Invitational. The Gators’ leading performers included Chris Verdeur (six takeaways), David Wolfson (four takeaways), Nick Gonzlez (three takeaways), Peter Moeller (two goals), Tate Gallagher (one goal, two assists), Frank Campanale (one goal) and goalie Ian Walsh (22 saves).

Shipley head coach Mark Duncan said, “Our kids played their hearts out and kept one of the top teams in the region to a 4-2 game at half time. We got amazing defense from Chris Verdeur, David Wolfson, Nick Gonzalez, Will Drake, Keagan Farr, Zach Bradlow and Ronan Higgins, and one of the best games of his career for Ian Walsh with 22 saves, many that were 1v1 and kept us in the game.”

Four days earlier, Shipley lost to Harriton, 8-6. The Gators received standout 1v1 pressure defense from David Wolfson, Chris Verduer, Will Drake, Nick Gonzalez, Keagan Farr and Zach Bradlow and a good performance by Ronan Higgins on face-offs. Goalie Ian Walsh had 12 saves, and Tate Gallagher had three goals and one assist. Other Shipley contributors were Peter Moeller (two goals), Chad Allison (one goal), Amir Fluellen (one assist) and Keagan Farr (one assist).

Girls’ lacrosse

Academy of Notre Dame defeated Baldwin School, 17-5, May 8. The Irish were led by Caroline Allen (six goals, one assist, two ground balls, five draw controls), Carolyn Riegel (three goals, three ground balls, one caused turnover, one draw control), Claire Nappi (two goals, two ground balls, two draw controls), Kelly Coyle (two goals, one ground ball, one draw control), Mackenzie Irvine (one goal), Madison Chermol (one goal), Lauren Brady (one goal, one draw control), Natalie Hughes (one goal, one draw control), MK Neff (one assist, two ground balls, one draw control), Kelly McNeil (two draw controls, one ground ball) and Kirsten Mansfield (three caused turnovers). Agnes Irwin defeated Penn Charter, 14-8, May 9 to move to 9-1 (18-1 overall) in the Inter Ac and sophomore Lila Barker and junior Kristin Burnetta each recorded their 100th career goals. Hannah Keating scored seven times for AIS and goalie Hailey Andress made 12 saves to earn her 19th win of the season.

Three days earlier, Agnes Irwin defeated host Moorestown, the four-time defending New Jersey state champions, 8-7. The last time the Moorestown girls lacrosse team lost a game on their home field, the entire Agnes Irwin lacrosse team was in middle school.

Hannah Keating scored four times and goalie Hailey Andress lead an outstanding effort by the Irwin’s defense with 12 saves. Lila Barker contributed two goals and an assist and Kristin Burnetta had a goal and two assists.

Moorestown jumped out to an early advantage 2-0, but Agnes Irwin scored three unanswered goals to take a lead they would not relinquish. AIS built a four goal lead with just over 10 minutes to play before Moorestown scored three times to draw within one with 4:46 on the clock. In the furious final minutes the teams traded possessions, with Moorestown getting several looks at the cage, but not able to find the equalizer.

The Agnes Irwin defense, junior captains Sarah Platt and Kate White, junior Emily Fryer, sophomores Emmie Keily and Alicia O’Neil and freshmen Kate Chernitsky and Maria Pansini were solid in support of Andress, holding one of the most potent offenses in the country to single digits.

“This is very special for us,’ Agnes Irwin head coach Jenny Duckenfield said. “Three years ago, our team was 2-18 and in the past two years, we’re now 39-3. We’ve definitely improved and every big win like this, especially to a great caliber team like Moorestown, it fuels the girls’ confidence.’

Agnes Irwin has now defeated three reigning state champions in the 2015 season, Vero Beach (Fla.), Garnet Valley, and Moorestown, in addition to dealing Central League front-runner Conestoga their only loss of the season, 16-8.

Baldwin School lost to Friends’ Central, 16-8, May 9. Friends’ Central defeated Baldwin School, 16-8, May 9. Playing in their last regular season game, seniors Emily Tedesco (three goals, one assist), Abby Crowley (two goals, two assists, two draw controls), Sophie Macfarlane (six goals, one assist) and Lisa Bernstein (two ground balls, and held Baldwin’s top scorer to two goals) all made significant contributions to the victory. Anne Pizzini was outstanding in goal with six saves and 100 percent accuracy on clears. Jesse Rubin added five goals, three assists and four draw controls. Strong defensive performances by the defensive unit of Avital Schweitzer (two draw controls, two ground balls, two caused turnovers), Hannah Posencheg (three ground balls, one caused turnover). Danielle Schweitzer (two ground balls, two caused turnovers), Hannah Anderson and Lisa Bernstein helped FCS control the game on both ends of the field.

Two days earlier, Friends’ Central lost to Bishop Shanahan, 18-15. Leading the scoring for FCS was senior captain Sophie Macfarlane with six goals and three assists, and junior captain Jesse Rubin with five goals and two assists. Adding one goal each were Emily Tedesco, Sophie Berger, Miranda Mastrocola, Lorna Macfarlane and Abby Crowley. Elise Foster had two key saves in goal late in the second half.

Harriton (15-3) celebrated its Senior Night with a 18-4 victory over Central Bucks South (13-5) May 7. Senior Jane Henderson led the way (seven goals, one assist, three draw controls, two caused turnovers, three ground balls), along with fellow seniors Maura Henderson (one goal, two assists, one ground ball, one draw control, three caused turnovers), Mel Sukonik (one goal, one ground ball), Julia Marks (one goal, two draw controls, one ground ball) and defender Allie Margulies.

Harriton used a swarming defense led by freshman goalie Devin McClain and her sidekicks Allie Margulies, Emma Arronson, Liv Tevis, Haley Morris, Lex Foust and Maura Henderson to stymie Springfield Delco (12-3, 8-2) in a 17-3 victory May 5. At the offensive end, another freshman Greta Stahl fired in five goals and had two assists. Other key Ram contributors were Jane Henderson (six goals, two assists, two draw controls, two caused turnovers), Laura Lasprogata (two goals, four draw controls, two ground balls) and Alex Ladda (three goals, four draw controls).

Merion Mercy Academy defeated Villa Maria Academy, 10-9, in overtime May 7. Jackie Benedict scored the winning goal.

The Golden Bears were led by Caroline Corzel (five goals, one assist), Jackie Benedict (three goals), Caroline Heath (one goal), Kaely Kyle (one goal), Julia Swahl (one assist), Caroline Steller (two assists), Ameilia Picconne (one assist) and Lauren Thomas (11 saves).

Merion Mercy defeated Sacred Heart, 20-9, May 5. The Golden Bears were led by Caroline Corzel (seven goals, one assist), Allie Scannopieco (three goals, two assists), Jackie Benedict (five goals, one assist), Carolina Heath (one goal, one assist), Julia Swahl (two goals, two assists), Brenna Stone (two goals), Caroline Steller (four assists), Brittany Bedrossian (one assist), Lauren Thomas (two saves) and MaryKate Markey (five saves). For Sacred Heart, Jenna Palumbo and Hannah Seifried each scored three goals.

Villa Maria Academy lost to Unionville, 16-12, May 9. The Hurricanes’ top performers included Lauren Dunn (three assists), Annina Iacobucci (one goal, one assist), Audrey Fantazzia (three goals, three assists), Caroline Mackrides (three goals), Katie Manta (four goals, two assists, three ground balls), Bryn Carickhoff (one goal), Lucy Meehan (three draw controls) and Sarah Moffit (three ground balls).

The Hurricanes lost to Merion Mercy Academy, 10-9, in overtime May 7. The Hurricanes (12-4, 10-3) were led by Lauren Dunn (two assists), Jenna Brignola (one goal, three ground balls), Lucy Meehan (one assist), Katie Manta (three goals, three ground balls, scored goal to go into overtime on an 8 meter shot), Audrey Fantazzia (four goals, one assist), Caroline Mackrides (one goal), Sarah Moffit (one assist, three ground balls) and goalie Emily Wilson (eight saves).

Villa Maria defeated Villa Joe Marie, 19-12, May 5. Leading the way for the Hurricanes (12-3) were Lauren Dunn (two goals, two assists, six draw controls), Jenna Brignola (two goals), Alexa Ostoich (one assist), Lucy Meehan (two goals, one assist), Audrey Fantazzia (five goals), Annina Iacobucci (four goals, one assist, four ground balls), Katie Manta (three goals, one assist, five draw controls, four ground balls), Bryn Carickhoff (one goal) and Emily Wilson (eight saves).

Baseball

Friends’ Central defeated Central High, 6-1, Monday. Ardon Fryer struck out five in a complete game victory for the Phoenix. Offensively, Joey Lawall paced the attack reaching base in all five at bats, going 3-for-3 with a walk, a hit by pitch and two runs scored. Mike Norcini broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth with a lead off triple and subsequently scored on a balk. Elias Stevenson (2-for-3 with two RBIs) broke the game open in the top of the seventh with a two-run single.

On May 9, Friends’ Central celebrated Homecoming with a 10-1 win against Roxborough High School. FCS’ Connor McVail struck out nine in a complete-game no-hitter. Roxborough’s lone run came in the bottom of the sixth on a walk, a stolen base and an error. FCS pounded out nine hits including triples by Steven Folwell and Jonas Snyder and doubles by Chris Annas and Elias Stevenson. Annas also had two RBI’s on the day.

Friends’ Central lost to host Malvern Prep, 6-4, May 6. The Phoenix went ahead 3-2 in the top of the third when Jonas Snyder singled home Gil Dreyfuss. Malvern tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and scored three in the top of the sixth to go ahead 6-3. Robbie Winward got the Phoenix to within two with an RBI single to right, his second hit of the day, but the Malvern closer, Shane Mutz, struck out the remaining two batters with the bases loaded giving the Friars a 6-4 victory.

The day before, Friends’ Central defeated Shipley, 2-0. Ardon Fryer hurled a complete game three-hit shutout, striking out five while not issuing a walk. Mike Norcini knocked in Steven Folwell who lead off the fifth with a triple which broke a scoreless tie. FCS tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Jonas Snyder singled home Gil Dreyfuss. Dreyfuss was 2-for-3 on the day with a triple and a single.

Radnor defeated Penncrest, 9-3, Monday. Sean Corelli threw a complete game – striking out five and walking one, and it was the 17th win of his impressive varsity career John Lord launched two doubles and had three RBIs. Mike Lanzone notched two hits and had three RBIs as well. Connor Wilson hit a triple off the left field fence and scored twice. Radnor finished its league season at 10-6 – which earned them a tie for second place in the league.

The Red Raiders defeated Upper Darby, 8-4, May 8. Will Girton had career highs with three hits and four RBIs to lead Radnor to the road win. Justin DiCarlo earned the win, throwing three innings of relief of Garrett McGurl. Charlie Connolly closed the game – striking out two batters in the seventh.

Two days earlier, Radnor defeated Springfield, 10-0. Sean Corelli threw a five inning shutout, allowing just two hits. He added two hits with two runs scored and three RBIs. Garrett McGurl went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Connor Wilson chipped in two hits with two runs scored.

Softball

Academy of Notre Dame defeated Baldwin School, 12-8, May 8. The Irish (7-7, 4-6) were led by freshman Marissa Mycek (2-for-3, two RBIs, three runs, triple, walk), freshman Sophia Marlino (3-for-4, two RBIs, home run, two runs, stolen base), freshman Anita Bilotta (2-for-3, three runs, two RBIs, home run), freshman Liann Dawson (2-for-3, two RBIs, run, walk) and senior Cassie Palumbo (three RBIs in three different plate appearances.) Marlino hit the first home run over the fence on Notre Dame’s brand-new softball field.

The Irish defeated Academy Park, 13-2, May 7. For Notre Dame, leaders included winning pitcher Emma Spaeder (four innings, five strikeouts, no walks, no earned runs, three hits); freshman Marissa Mycek (2-for-3), freshman Sophia Marlino (2-for-2, one walk, three runs, two RBI’s, three stolen bases); freshman Tina D’Anjollel (1-for-1, two RBI’s, one double); freshman Sarah Crinnion (1-for-1, two RBI’s); Cassie Palumbo (one double) and Anita Bilota (one double).

Agnes Irwin defeated Germantown Academy, 3-2, May 5. Michala Maciolek hits two solo home runs and went 3-for-3. Taryn Kelly hit a double, and winning pitcher Meghan Dillon struck out five batters.

Friends’ Central defeated Westtown, 22-0, May 9 to earn the third seed in the Friends Schools League playoffs.

Carolyn Spellacy threw a one hitter against Westtown for four innings, with seven strikeouts. Olivia Bartholomew finished with a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts in the fifth inning. Jane Goldstein was 3-for-4 with six RBI’s and a grand slam. Saiorse Hahn was 2-for-5 with four RBI’s and a double. Carolyn Spellacy was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run with four RBI’s. Maddie Henry had two hits and two RBI’s and Caroline Fakharzadeh was 2-for-3 with two RBI’s. Caroline Bartholomew was 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI and four runs scored. Emma Rutenberg was also 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Olivia Bartholomew was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored to round out an overall total team effort from the Phoenix.

Radnor defeated Christopher Dock, 7-6, May 5. Winning pitcher Brooke Nicander hurled her second complete game in 24 hours, allowing only one earned run and one walk while striking out four. Batting standouts for Radnor included Sydney Aljian (double, one RBI), Brooke McClatchy (2-for-3, one run, one RBI), Katie Jordan (1-for-3, two runs, one RBI), Holly Pachella (key RBI single in sixth, later scored on grounder by Sydney Aljian) and Nicander (2-for-3, one run scored).

With the bases loaded and one out in the Dock seventh, a medium fly ball was hit to left field and caught by Megan McGrath, who threw to home on the fly, which Pachella caught and tagged out the runner for a game-ending double play.

Sacred Heart lost to St. Basil, 7-6, May 6. For the Lions, Ally Schell had a triple and Isabella Chan hit a double.

Boys’ tennis

Haverford School defeated Episcopal Academy, 7-0, Monday. Winners were Zach Lieb (first singles), Ben Lieb (second singles), John Walsh (third singles), Andrew Gushner and Will McDevitt (first doubles), Drew Clark and Jackson Simon (second doubles), Mathias Fink and Benji Bacharach (third doubles) and Andrew Clark and Gage Bowser (fourth doubles).

The Fords defeated Haddonfield (N.J.), 6-1, May 6. At first singles, the Fords’ Zach Lieb defeated Tommy Dodson, 6-1, 6-1; and at second singles, Haverford’s Ben Lieb defeated Sam Oberholtzer, 6-0, 6-1. At first doubles, Haverford’s Nathan Kidambi and Will McDevitt defeated Stephen Quickel and Cameron Kohs, 6-1, 6-0; at second doubles, the Fords’ Andrew Gushner and John Walsh defeated Phil O’Connor and Alex Samaha, 6-0, 6-0; at third doubles, Haverford’s Jackson Simon and Drew Clark defeated Joey Reisman and Nick Dante, 6-3, 6-1; and at fourth doubles, the Fords’ Teddy Selverian and Benji Bacharach defeated Dan Moramarco and Sean Wilkinson, 6-0, 6-0.

Malvern Prep defeated Church Farm, 7-0, May 7. At first singles, James Harrington defeated Donald Albriton, 6-0, 6-0; at second singles, Alex Sorensen defeated Khizen Overichi, 6-1, 6-0; at third singles, Desmond Papriello defeated Giao Go, 6-1, 6-0; at first doubles, Steve Conduit and Dan Giannascoli defeated Jo Days and Vkeesha Shabazz, 6-1, 6-0; at second doubles, Brendan Mullen and Mike Lemond defeated Zeeshan Zazgo and Wes Chordangs, 6-1, 6-1; at third doubles, Nick Elia and Nick Mangano defeated Colin Cho and Zhaosen Guo, 6-2, 6-3; and at fourth doubles, Mike Lemond and Tommy Colaiezzi defeated Charlie Guo and Andre Johnson, 7-6(3), 6-2.

Radnor defeated Unionville, 3-2, May 5 in the PIAA District One Tournament quarterfinal. The Red Raiders won all three singles matches. At first singles, Will Frigerio defeated Zeyad Zaki 6-2, 6-0; at second singles, Josh Taylor defeated Zack Sokoloff 6-0, 6-1; and at third singles, Brad Burton defeated Daniel Hopping, 6-1, 6-0.

Track & field

Conestoga had some fine performances at the Central League Championships May 6. For the boys, senior Andrew Marston won the boys’ 1,600-meter run in a historic way with a blazing 4:16.43. Marston bettered the 36-year-old Conestoga 1,600-meter run record of 4:17.94.

Fellow seniors Andrew Diehl and Martin Dorsey won the high jump (6-0) and long jump (20-8) respectively. Senior Nate McLachlan won the 300-meter hurdles (40.05).

Senior Kilian Nelson placed second in the 800-meter run with a personal-best 1:56.26. Sophomore Aidan Krombolz placed second in the javelin, throwing 149-7.

For the girls, Freshman Dominique Shultz placed second in the 1,600-meter run (5:14.78) after a strong finishing kick. Fellow freshman Grace Lanouette finished third in the 100-meter dash (12.68).

Senior Elise Odell placed second in the triple jump (33-4) and Junior Lila Holmes finished third in the 400-meter dash (1:01.29).

Haverford School’s Micah Sims had quite a day to lead the Fords to the Inter-Ac League championship May 9. Sims won the 200-meter dash and the long jump, finished second in the 100 and was fourth in the triple jump.

Sims’ victory in the long jump was part of a big day in the field events for the Fords. Reggie Harris went 45-¾ to win the triple jump. Chauncey Simmons was second in the shot put. Sam Lindner also played a key role to help the Fords edge Penn Charter for the team title. Linder won the 300 hurdles and was second in the 110 hurdles.

Sam Pope won the 400 and finished second in both the long and triple jumps to lead Episcopal Academy. Teammate Dee Barlee was second in the discus.

Billy McDevitt of Malvern Prep won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

Radnor’s Caroline Ditrolio placed first in the freshman 800 meter to pace the Red Raider girls at the Radnor Invitational May 9. Katie Lihota was also an individual winner capturing the freshman high jump title. Grace Wakiyama and Julia Havertine were also ribbon winners, finishing second and fourth in the freshman 1,600 meter race.

In open races Olivia Cooper won the 1,600 meter run with a personal best time of 5:26.7 and Kaitlyn Slinkard placed fourth in the 400 meter run.

Radnor had some fine performances at the Central League Track & Field Championships May 6 at Lower Merion High School.

In the boys events, the 3,200 meter relay team of Connor Holm, Henry Minning, Peter Cooke, and Andre Kelly captured the gold medal. Later in the meet Holm placed third in the 800 meter and fourth in the 1,600 meter. Cooke was fifth in the 400 meter and sixth in the 300 meter hurdles.

Olivia Cooper paced the Radnor girls with a third place in the 800 meter. Freshman Julia Havertine dropped her time over 20 seconds to place fourth in the 3,200 meter race. The 1,600 meter relay of Cooper, Kaitlyn Slinkard, Megan Hemcher, and Emma Sheehan ran their best time of the year. Katie Lihota leaped 4-10 for fourth place in the high jump.

Golf

Friends’ Central defeated Moorestown Friends, 162-184, May 7 at McCall Golf & Country Club. For FCS, Peter Bradbeer shot par 32 and playing partner Mark Charamella shot a career-best 42.

The Phoenix defeated Solebury School, 204-242, May 6 at Bala Golf Club. Declan Lawson and Teddy Mischel made their varsity debut and did well. Sam Levitties was the low man for FCS, shooting a 43 – that included four pars – on the back nine at Bala.

Crew

Agnes Irwin had another fine performance at the Philadelphia City Championship May 3. Five of the seven boats raced made it to finals with three boats taking silver. The second place finishes were Novice 4x (Caroline Richardson (bow), Carolyn Shipe, Lauren Schafrank, Sarah Nicolson) with a time of 5:47.25, the Freshman 4x (Rosie Sokoll (bow), Rose Lawrence, Myka Thomas, Lexi Short) at 5:30.90, and one of the Irwin’s JV 2x (Sabina Smith (bow), Anna Sophie Peters) at 6:07.61. The second JV 2x finished a close fifth overall in finals (Sophia Weintraub (bow), Gill Diebold) while the LW 4+ (Teagan (cox), Maya Brown-Hunt, Gabby D’Arcangelo, Arden Berlinger, Taylor Siegal) finished sixth overall racing in lane 6.

AIS crew head coach Molly Lawrence said, “We had a very successful day on the water. This past week we needed to come together as a team and support one another going into Sunday. The entire coaching staff could not be more proud of the girls.”

Conestoga had some fine performances at the two-day USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships in West Windsor N.J. Conestoga entered 15 boats in the 2,000 meter sprint races. Saturday morning events included heats for the Men’s Youth Single, Women’s Youth Double, two Women’s Youth Lightweight Doubles, the Men’s Youth Double and the Women’s Youth Quad. Four of the six boats qualified for finals that were held May 10.

The first race May 10 was a seven boat Women’s Youth Single sprint; Gillian Dowson represented Conestoga and finished sixth. The next race included two Women’s Youth Lightweight Doubles from Conestoga; Amy Connell and Kate Hudson followed by Ana Zibinski and Angela Sarakisian. They captured first and third place, respectively. The Women’s Youth Double of Carly Robins and Laura Phelan followed shortly thereafter with a third place finish. The Women’s Youth Quad of Caroline Gosnear, Laura Alcorn, Maddy Beirne and Emily Hompe fought a tough race and finished third, taking home a bronze medal.

Competing in the Men’s Youth Lightweight Double, Julius Neubig and Matt Balch finished a very strong race less than one second out of fourth place. The first Conestoga men to medal May 10 were Hanan Zisling and Max Malarkey in the Men’s Youth Double. The Men’s Youth Quad; Jake Novak, Niall Carlson, Jack Corr and Max Amsterdam along with Ryan Hollinger, Chris Ferris, Griffin Hamilton and Maarten Monster continued the winning tradition with Conestoga A finishing in first and Conestoga B finishing in third place.

With the Varsity races done for the day, it was time for the ‘Stoga Novices and Freshman to hit the water. The Men’s U17 Quad race was represented by both Freshman and Novice boats. The Freshman quad, Evan Cain, Zach Simpson, Jack Amsterdam and Connor Sullivan, rowing strong throughout the race finishing with a furious sprint at the end, placed second and brought home Silver. The Novice quad, Liam Bobber, Frank Wang, Warren Zhao and Liam Roth, finished a strong fourth in the competitive race.

The Conestoga Women’s Freshman Quad, Naomi Holt, Katherine Stanton, Sara Hyams and Leigh Burgess, showed their strength, winning the U17 race and took home gold. The Novice quad, Amanda Sarkisian, Elissa Wilton, Holly Culbert, Fiona Curnyn, also had a strong race placing third and bringing home bronze. The Conestoga Novice double of Anna Green and Alyssa Gradisek also took home Gold, placing first in the U17 doubles race.

Episcopal Academy had some excellent performances at the Philadelphia City Championships. Both the Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity 4+ teams took first place. The Boys’ team edged past rival St. Joe’s Prep by five seconds. Rowers included: Will Purtill, Nick Horbowy, Guillaume Furey, Fran Kinniry, and coxswain Carolyn Bell.

The victorious Girls’ Varsity 4+ team included: Haley Potter, Laura Zecca, Morgan Lindblad, Anna Eringis and coxswain Leah Yao. The team pushed past Radnor High School to win by three seconds.

EA head coach Molly Konopka said, “The two top varsity boats’ wins say a great deal about the dedication of the students. They didn’t just win on Sunday afternoon; parts of the races are won during the previous summer, fall, over the winter, and certainly through the cold snowy spring break practices.”

The EA Girls’ Novice 8+ placed an impressive second in their final. That team included: Josephine Konopka, Shannon Conlin, Alexandra Peyton, Skyler Schork, Hannah Kaufhold, Heidi Zirnkilton, Emma Sargent, Grace Kaufhold and coxswain Lindsay Barber.

The Boys Novice 4+ also fared well, placing third overall. Rowers included Kyle Hogan, Lewis Faulkner, Hank Aldridge, Patrick Zhang and coxswain Schuyler Kresage.

Konopka credited her team’s hard work, and Episcopal Academy’s philosophy of supporting athletes who play multiple sports with the team’s success at City Champs: “The experience of competing in tough contests, whatever the sport, makes our athletes better in very competitive races.”

Radnor earned medals in four events at the Mid-Atlantic Championships May 9-10 at Mercer Lake, N.J. The Womens Youth 2V4+, rowed by Nicole Vitt, Zoe Landry, Sam Talucci, Olivia Robinson and coxswain Natalie Beers, finished first in their heat, first in the semi finals, and rowed to third place overall, earning a bronze medal at the Championship Regatta.

The Womens Youth V4+ consisting of Kelsey Lally, Caroline Ressler, Olivia Chase, Yunyun Gu and coxswain Skylar Kallick — went second in their heat, third in the semifinal, and finished sixth overall.

The Womens Youth 4+ boat, rowed by Josie Larkin, Gisella Logioia, Anna Duffy, Colleen DiMarcantonio and coxswain Cassidy Lorenz, finished fourth in their heat and sixth in the semi final.

The Radnor Boys had a strong showing starting with the Mens Youth Ltwt V8+, rowed by Noah Morris, Pranav Gaddameedi, Stephen Ching, Drew Addis, Bobby Subak, Ryan Borowski, Aidan Donnelly and Benton Duncan with coxswain Cole Appelman. They rowed to second place overall, earning a silver medal at the Regatta.

The Mens Youth V4+ was rowed by Jake Bragdon, Liam Williams, Jack Palmer, Evan Horvath and coxswain Will Moore. They placed third in the semi-final heat and earned a bronze medal for third place in the finals.

The Mens Youth V2 was rowed by Jack Boudreau and Shreyash Parmar. They came in fourth place overall.

The Mens Youth JV8+ was rowed by Willem McGee, Sam Bupp, Zahi Shalev, Oscar Glassman, Pranav Gaddameedi, Matt Kellett, JW O’Riordan, Jake Craig and Coxswain Josh Anderson. They took third place overall, earning a bronze medal in the final race.

The Mens Youth JV4+ was rowed by Milo Wilton, Matt Palmer, Mike Fitzpatrick and Ben Webster, with Coxswain Zack Pepper. They placed third in the semifinals and third place overall, earning a bronze medal at the Regatta.

The Mens Youth Novice 8+ was rowed by Brett Lyons, Chetin Atilasoy, Alex Frey, Kyle Addis, Ryan Conklyn, Greg McNicholas, Stefan Neagoe, Alex Hahn and Coxswain Bela Hain. They qualified for the semi-finals, where they took fourth place.
