SANTA MARIA, CA (CNN) – A small plane made an emergency landing in a strawberry field.

Authorities say the plane went down due to mechanical failure near the Santa Maria public airport.

The pilot and two passengers were on board.

Capt. Dave Zaniboni of the Santa Barbara county fire department said “The pilot did a fabulous job. I was told he has 50 years experience. He did a great job in bringing the aircraft down safely and preserving the health of his occupants.”

The Santa Maria Times reports the pilot was treated for minor cuts and bruises.

The two passengers, the pilot’s son and the son’s fiancé, were not hurt.
