BLOOMFIELD HILLS (WWJ) – Bloomfield Hills Schools sure are churning out the bookworms.

It’s something that’s practically unheard of: Four students at the city’s high school earned perfect scores on their ACT tests in the past 24 months.

According to the ACT, less than one-tenth of one percent (less than .1%) of students who take the exam earns a 36 composite — perfect score. But in Bloomfield Hills Schools, that number is more than tripled with students earning a perfect score at a rate of 0.32%.

So, what’s Bloomfield Hills Schools secret for success?

“It’s about relationships,” Superintendent Dr. Rob Glass said in a statement. “All of our staff, from the teachers to the bus drivers, encourage students to dream big and do their best. Whether our students dream of a perfect ACT score or being the next Olympic medalist, we’re here to help.”

Helena Gregg, the first of the bunch to receive the perfect score said she was thankful to her teachers.

“They’re so supportive and the teaching in Bloomfield Hills Schools is amazing.” Gregg said she moved to the district in the 7th grade because, “my parents wanted me to have the best and Bloomfield is the best.”

Alan Zhang, who was just 13-years-old when he received his perfect score credited his counselors who, “helped guide me through the course selection process and through the various opportunities.”

Students in Bloomfield Hills Schools have a wide variety of choices, including instructional options at the largest outdoor classroom in Oakland County at the E.L. Johnson Nature Center and at the 96 acre working farm, Bowers School Farm.

Emily Wang, the most recent to earn the perfect score, said her teachers really pushed her to be successful.

“Any teacher I’ve had who has been really passionate about their subject or who has really challenged me has been influential,” she said.

Simona Zhu, who received her perfect score in May of 2016, couldn’t agree more.

“My favorite teachers would have to be my 8th grade teachers Mr. and Mrs. Honeyman. They both were extremely passionate about teaching and made classes very entertaining.”
