Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy Receives Prestigious Compounding Pharmacy Accreditation from PCAB: Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy, the country’s largest independent specialty pharmacy servicing the needs of patients and physicians nationwide, is pleased to announce the company’s compounding pharmacy has been accredited by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board. The accreditation is awarded in recognition of Diplomat’s commitment to meeting or exceeding national quality standards. Compounded medications are prescriptions that are written by physicians, veterinarians and other legally authorized prescribers and prepared for an individual patient by a specially trained pharmacist.  Compounding medications are integral to the practice of pharmacy and the demand for such customized medications is increasing. Compounded medicines may be offered, for example, when a child needs a smaller dosage than the manufacturer produces; when a patient cannot tolerate an inactive ingredient in a manufactured medicine; or when a physician prescribes a medication discontinued by the manufacturer for economic reasons. The PCAB accreditation comes as Diplomat continues to expand its best in class practices in the specialty pharmacy niche. In December 2012, the company received URAC certification in specialty pharmacy and in November was selected by Exelixis to serve as the exclusive specialty pharmacy for the new FDA approved cancer drug Cometriq. The Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board is a nonprofit organization that provides a voluntary accreditation program for compounding pharmacies nationwide.  Formed by eight of the nation’s leading pharmacy organizations, PCAB promotes, develops and maintains principles, policies and standards for improving the quality of pharmacy compounding nationwide.
