HONG KONG — Agent Provocateur and La Perla both just opened stores here in the latest sign that Chinese consumers’ appetite for high-end lingerie is growing swiftly.
Last month Agent Provocateur opened its first standalone store in Hong Kong on trendy On Street in Central — it joins the brand’s other two Hong Kong concessions in Lane Crawford and seven stores in Mainland China. Meanwhile, La Perla just opened its own flagship in Causeway Bay right next door to the Times Square shopping mall. The Italian brand’s store, whose fascade features a large LCD screen projecting video of La Perla runway shows, is the brand’s 14th store in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
Angelito Tan, cofounder of RTG Consulting, said that sales of lingerie in China last year rang in at $20 billion and are projected to grow 18 percent this year. Luxury lingerie sales accounted for approximately one-third of the market last year, he said.
Both Agent Provocateur and La Perla said they are seeing strong growth in Asia. Many of Agent Provocateur’s stores in China were opened recently and don’t have year-on-year comparables but the British brand’s Beijing store is currently up 30 percent in terms of sales, according to Agent
