Arnold Palmer, one of the greatest players in the history of professional golf who was known as much for his All-American dress sense on the course as his style of play, has died at the age of 87.
Palmer, who passed away Sunday, had been in failing health for some time. He died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital where he had been since Thursday undergoing heart tests, according to news reports.
Over the years, Palmer had a number of apparel licenses, the most recent of which was inked in May when Arnold Palmer Enterprises signed a multiyear licensing agreement with Sport Casuals to develop and distribute Arnold Palmer men’s wear in the U.S.
Arnold Palmer apparel had been out of the market for at least three years before this deal was consummated.
While the line has the requisite golf shirts and pants, what sets the collection apart is that all of the net profits are being donated to Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation, Palmer’s recently formed philanthropic entity. This agreement, which was brokered with the assistance of IMG, is the first of its kind for golf apparel.
