MATERIAL MATTERS: The Campaign for Wool will kick off its first wool conference in Scotland later today.
Held in Ayrshire, the Dumfries House Wool Conference will host an international crowd that includes wool experts and fashion industry names such as Marks & Spencer chief executive officer Steve Rowe, Paul Smith, Ermenegildo Zegna chairman Paolo Zegna, president of Condé Nast International and chairman of The Campaign for Wool, Nicholas Coleridge, founder and creative director of Eco-Age Livia Firth, David Gandy, The Savory Institute president and cofounder Allan Savory and Adam Carpets chairman Alan Folwell.
Topics of discussion include animal welfare, sustainability, quality, environmental issues and fast-fashion alongside the future of the wool industry and key initiatives and challenges the fashion and interiors sectors face. In addition, the signing of The Dumfries House Wool Declaration will take place, which focuses on best practices for sheep, growing, trading and manufacturing. According to the committee, the declaration is a document for major wool growing countries to conform to the highest standards of animal welfare.
The conference was created out of the committee’s continued passion to “protect the environment, growing the wool trade and ensuring that our sheep’s welfare is of the highest level to give the best quality wool.”
