EN POINTE: Exiting Paris Opera Ballet director Benjamin Millepied may have been busy packing his bags, but spirits were high at the Opéra Garnier on Friday night during an opening-night bash for the Première Classe, Don’t Believe the Hype and Paris Sur Mode trade shows.
The event, held in the opera house’s restaurant, also showcased ballet-inspired capsule collections by 16 brands in a pop-up boutique in the site’s store, on sale through March 12. Goodies included hand-embroidered ballet-slipper brooches by Macon & Lesquoy and black tutu fabric caps by Bernstock Speirs.
Taking a break from limbering up from his latest role as the male lead in Rudolf Nureyev’s “Romeo and Juliet,” due to open later this month at the Opéra Bastille, étoile dancer Josua Hoffalt was on hand to present creations from his namesake dance-inspired accessories and clothing line, Hoffalt, cofounded a year ago with his designer brother Lucas Hoffalt.
“I spend my days in front of mirrors at my studio and spend more time in my dance clothes than civilian garb, but I could never find anything that I liked. The idea for the label came to me when I was recovering from an injury,” said Hoffalt of the line that is made in France and features decorative flourishes.
