MONROE, Conn. (WTNH) — A teacher at Monroe’s Masuk High School is on paid administrative leave, after a female student reported the teacher for inappropriate behavior.

Superintendent Jim Agostine sent a letter home to parents on Tuesday. There are few details about what happened during the incident and the teacher is not named. But the letter does say the girl reported an incident to the School Resource Officer who then passed the information on to school administration. School officials passed on the report to police and the Department of Children and Families was also notified. News 8 will have an update on the situation as more information becomes available.

The letter to parents, also posted to the school’s website, is below.

Incident at Masuk High School

Dear Parents and Staff:

As Superintendent of Monroe Public Schools and in our continuing effort to be transparent in our communication with our school community, I wanted to make you aware of a situation that was brought to our attention at Masuk High School today November 11th, 2014.

A student alerted our School Resource Officer about an incident in which she reported what she called inappropriate behavior by a teacher.

The SRO then reported this to Administration. I was then notified and worked with the Monroe Police Department. The Department of Children and Families was contacted. Shortly after that, I immediately placed the teacher on paid administrative leave pending further investigation.

All of our administrators in the Monroe School System have been made aware of this situation. This is an unfortunate situation and I want you to be reassured that we addressed it immediately and we will continue to work closely with the proper authorities to resolve this issue.

Jim Agostine

Superintendent Monroe Public Schools
