Description of duties
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are actively seeking an outstanding student for a PhD project investigating the incorporation of threshold concepts and ecological site descriptions for invasive weed management on western rangelands.
A successful candidate will be experienced with field study design and subsequent collection and analysis of ecological data in remote sagebrush landscapes. Travel to multiple field sites is required. Applicant must possess a high degree of initiative and self-reliance. This is a fully-funded assistantship with competitive stipend in the beautiful setting of Laramie, Wyoming. Successful applicants will have ample opportunity to participate in extension and teaching during their time at UW. Duties will ideally begin with field work in May 2015, with coursework to begin in August 2015.
Qualifications sought
Qualifications: MS or equivalent in rangeland ecology and management, weed science, restoration ecology or other similar field; outstanding work ethic and motivation; field experience with herbicides preferred; demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Additional assets include familiarity with state and transition models, western plant identification and vegetation sampling methodology.
