JOB DESCRIPTION:

Crop Protection Research & Development, Discovery Herbicide is seeking motivated, talented candidates for the Discovery Herbicide Manager position located at Stine-Haskell Research Center, Newark, Delaware US.

This position requires technical, personnel and administrative management of biological scientists and technicians whose mission is to discover new herbicide active ingredients qualified for commercial development. The scientists reporting to the Discovery Herbicide Manager include B.S., M.S. and Ph.D agronomists, weed scientists and plant biologists. The Discovery Herbicide Manager has the responsibility for prioritizing projects and resources and participating in technical discussions and decisions involving greenhouse and field biology, chemical structure-activity relationships, mode of action studies and analyses of environmental properties of experimental compounds. The successful candidate is responsible for technical coaching of his/her team, setting personal and group objectives and performance appraisal and salary administration of the individuals in his organization.

The following are highlights of key responsibilities of the role:

Provide technical support and leadership to the Research Team, and effectively interface with Chemistry, Development, Global Technical product managers and business team.

Develop, implement, and manage or supervise all research programs and projects in the area of discovery of Novel herbicides and qualify them for commercial development candidates.

Implement best practice research methods and establish high standards across the department.

Initiate programs in new areas in research to include, but not exclusive to, new screening tools, productivity approaches and quality management. Development, validation and implementation of creative new bioassays are included in these activities.

Collaborate with the Discovery Biology Manager on the development of long term research strategy to support the Crop discovery strategic plan.

Establish and manage an external research network and expert community for discovery of herbicides.

Stay abreast of current trends, market conditions, and technological advances through continued education.

Follow all company safety rules in performing job duties and perform other duties as assigned and make sure that group is committed to the goal of Zero incidence.

Qualifications sought

Ph.D. weed science, agronomy, or related field or equivalent in education and experience

7+ years of research and development experience in herbicide

3 +years of experience in managing herbicide team/group

Strong track record of effectively communicating to foster a collaborative environment

Strong track record of delivering results

Experience in effectively managing change

Strong interpersonal skills

Proficient in computer skills and applications

Fundamental knowledge of research tools and applications
