SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – A suspect has been arrested after deputies say he stabbed a man while he tried to rob the Family Dollar on Whitney Road, Wednesday night.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45-year-old Reginald Arnold Davis Jr. and charged him with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature and Attempted Armed Robbery.

Deputies say several citizens contacted them with his name after seeing media coverage.

The attempted robbery happened around 8:20pm Wednesday night when deputies say the suspect tried to get money from the cash register. During the robbery, investigators say a customer grabbed the suspect in a choke hold before the suspect pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed the customer in his back shoulder and got away.

Davis is being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center on $25,000 bond.

The injured customer was taken to the hospital where he was given 50 staples for his injury.
